RewrapAVCHD

1.0.027 August 2015

Wrap your AVCHD files with a .m4v container (beta).

Overview

RewrapAVCHD lets you rewrap .mts, .m2ts, and .m2t files to .m4v files. AVCHD files are not converted (no re-encoding), there is no quality loss and it's instant.

The FastCut video editor from the same developer cannot handle ubiquitous AVCHD files directly. Thus, this is the tool which makes your AVCHD files compatible with FastCut and any other apps that rely on QuickTime for media file handling. To process a file, drop it onto the RewrapAVCHD icon, or click on the 'Rewrap' button in the main window and select a file. You can also rewrap multiple files at once. Simply drop several files or pick more than one file in the file picker by holding down the Command key. However, this batch-processing capability is reserved for owners of a FastCut license.

What's new in RewrapAVCHD

Version 1.0.0:
  • [New] new FastCut release included in folder
  • [New] new Read Me file created Version 1.0b6 (Apr 11, 2015)
  • [Chg] Perian check routine improved
  • [Fix] openFiles routine fixed
  • [Fix] v2 code signature
  • [New] package with new FastCut version
  • [New] app operates with alias files, original source files not touched

Requirements for RewrapAVCHD

  • Mac OS X 10.5.0 or later

I tried to wrap a 500 meg file and it went on and on for over an hour of spinning. Once I hit the quit button my file was lost from the Finder. No way to recover... before you use this program, BACK UP YOUR FILES... it is beta and it shows.

I downloaded this to help convert the AVCHD files from my Sony NEX-5 to something I can import into iMovie. I am quite a novice at this business... but it seems like there aren't a lot of options on the RewrapAVCHD interface. I can select my MTS file and then it does a little something on the status bar but I get no results. I downloaded the Perian plug-in but is there anything else I need to do?

Both RewrapAVCHD 1.0b3 and 1.0b4 do not work on well more than half of the .m2ts files I give it. It just cursorily examines it and then spits out a null file almost immediately with a "ping."

NOT SAFE YET! Version 1.0b3 works great on some files, doesn't work at all on others, and occasionally deletes the sources file whether that preference is checked or not! It'll be great when it's ready, and it is greatly needed — thanks and kudos are due to the developer for both making it and making it free. But, it ain't there yet, so you absolutely MUST backup your files before use.

I have a Panasonic GH2 and have been looking for something like this! I looked at numerous converters, but most required knowing what I was doing. ;-) ReWrapAVCHD does dead-simple conversions with no apparent loss of video quality and most importantly, NO HEADACHES! It really couldn't be simpler to use. Drag & Drop conversion works great. A dialogue box open every time and shows only 2 options: Delete the original file and Open the converted file with QuickTIme Player. That's it! Now I'll shoot more video!

I have a Sony CyberShot dsc-hx9v and video conversion from mts to m4v is perfect. Videos are usable with iMovie and Quicktime. Really great piece of software.

Works unless you drop files onto it, in which case it deletes your files and does nothing else. See my comment in the "troubleshooting" section.

CAUTION!! Do not drop files onto this app. It will delete the originals without doing anything else, regardless of settings. I advise that you back up your files, then only do one file at a time using the window interface, and, to be safe, don't check the "delete originals" checkbox (which, as mentioned does NOT need to be on for this bug to do its damage).
