Pastebot

2.2.104 March 2019

Clipboard manager with custom clippings.

Overview

Pastebot saves everything you copy so that you can quickly recall them in the future. Save and organize frequently-used clippings into custom pasteboards and create keyboard shortcuts to access pasteboards and paste specific clippings. Build filters with a live preview and apply them as you paste. Create keyboard shortcuts to quickly paste using your filters and export your filters to share with other Pastebot users. Pastebot is there when you need it and invisible when you don’t. Quickly access your clippings from any app and search, preview, or filter clippings before pasting. You can even set the order of clippings to paste in sequence.

With iCloud enabled, your main clipboard, custom pasteboards and filters sync across all of your computers running Pastebot. Your clipboard and filters will be on every mac you work on. Create custom pasteboard groups to organize important clippings you want to save and re-use. Assign keyboard shortcuts to clippings you use most often. macOS Sierra’s Universal Clipboard works alongside Pastebot. Copy a clipping in Pastebot and paste it on your iOS device via Universal Clipboard.

Features
  • Pastebot works in full-screen and split-screen mode. Running in split-screen mode allows you to use Pastebot as a scratch pad.
  • Choose from various quick paste window styles to suit your preferences, always paste in plain text, enable release-to-paste and more.
  • There are apps you copy from that you never want stored in Pastebot. Just add that application to the blacklist and Pastebot will ignore it.
  • Find a clipping quickly with Pastebot’s powerful search capabilities. Search based on content or metadata. You can search by application, date, data type and more.
  • Pastebot features many keyboard shortcuts to satisfy any copy-and-paste maestro. Paste the previous item on the clipboard or paste the current clipping while applying the last used filter.

What's new in Pastebot

Version 2.2.1:
  • Fixed another issue with drag/drop on Mojave

Requirements for Pastebot

  • macOS 10.13.0 or later

Great app! But a companion Pastebot-App for iOS would be much better!!

I have tried so many clipboard apps, including all the top-ranked ones, and I found a couple I like, but for some reason I decided to download a trial of Pastebot. Wow! The filters are great (I added one to strip line breaks from OCR and copied text) and I love that I can assign keyboard shortcuts to them to apply them to whatever's on the clipboard without even opening the Pastebot window. I can also apply shortcuts to different pasteboards so that I can go directly to them, rather than having to open the main window and switch to a different pasteboard as is the case with some other clipboard apps. A half star off because I can't right-click a clip in my history and quickly "paste as plain text." Instead I have to click the filter icon and select the plain text filter, which works but requires extra time.

I might have considered using this app if Tapbots hadn't abandoned the iPhone version so that I could sync clipboards.

Pretty good thus far. I've tried dozens of such products always hoping to find one that has all the goodies I need. I moved to this product from Clipbuddy which was pretty good but ugly with poor tech support. I had an issue within a day of downloading this new product and got a reply within hours! Awesome. There are still areas that need to be addressed to make it five stars: ClipBuddy did allow me to edit the Pasteboard content if I wanted to, this doesn't. But otherwise this product seems to be a worthy replacement. I like that I can open the product and just start typing to 'find' any clip I need; fast and efficient. Did find an issue sending a clipping to Apple Mail (didn't work) but I was just testing functionality and probably will not use the 'share' feature.

Isn't there a problem with pasteboard apps purchased at the Mac App Store because of sandbox restrictions, meaning "you can't paste an item directly to an application? Does this app work around the problem in any way?

I was used this app daily during the beta and as I said: I think it is the most powerful and most elegant clipboard manager to date. The devs really take care of user requests and they already implemented many small things to improve the app with each new version. But still there are some features missing to make it the ultimate tool for me: - I need tags! I always use tags whenever possible and I don't know why no clipboard manager hasn't implemented tags to search/find/store clips. This would give you much more control over how to store, locate and manage your clippings (e.g. smart folders/lists/pasteboards?) - I liked the way you can put a PTHPasteboard window at the screen edge and when you hover it with the mouse, it will slide in - Filter actions based on your own scripts (e.g. shell/javascript/…) so you can create your own fancy filters - I use the "take screenshot" feature of Copy em Paste a lot. It's simply brilliant: take a screenshot (area, window, …) and put it in the clipboard instead of saving it locally. - Send clip directly to any app that supports it (e.g. take a screenshot -> send it to Affinity Photo) I know many ideas are not easy to implement and probably also not usable for everyone but I know the developers are listening and so there is still hope those features will make it into Pastebot. So, what about the rating? For me it is the best of its kind and it is very stable. Is it worth 5 stars? Hm, I think not yet, even it is very, very close. The price may be a little bit high but I instantly purchased it without even thinking about it to support the further development.

The Tapbots are crazy asking 20 bucks. Calling it version 2.0 ? WTF they have ditched Pastebot 1 ( a Mac menu bar item) years ago. Tweetbot is their only app with regular updates. Calcbot iOS has not been updated for more than a years. Check Paste or Copied or even Alfed ...

PTHPasteboard was my hero, now it's dead. This is the only app that seems to have the potential to replace it. For a beta it's already really good. I just hope the price is right once it's out of beta.
