Chronories

1.1.129 May 2012

Personal daily diary application.

Overview

Chronories makes writing a personal diary easy and fun. Like all other journal apps, Chronories supports text entries and pictures for each day. But Chronories can do much more for you: It automatically...
  • Collects contacts you've chatted or emailed with
  • Shows Web sites you've visited on that day
  • Stores the local weather for each day in your diary
  • Records which applications you've used that day and the time you've spend in front of your mac
  • Reminds you to take pictures of yourself on a daily basis using your iSight
  • Reminds you to take screenshots of your desktop
  • Shows your iCal appointments
  • Asks you how you feel today
  • Reminds you when you've forgotten to enter text for today's diary entry
  • Collects RSS feed headlines for each day
  • Logs music you heard

From the information gathered, Chronories creates and displays customizable charts from your data like, for example, the places you've visited in a cloud chart. Data access from within Chronories can optionally be password-protected.

What's new in Chronories

Version 1.1.1:
  • Bug fixes and general stability enhancements

Requirements for Chronories

  • Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later

This app is no longer listed on the developer's website and has gone missing from the Mac App Store. Discontinued? I'm glad I switched to another journal app months ago, it seemed like it wasn't going anywhere and the iPhone app never came out. Synium used to be my favorite developer with their awesome set of apps, but they continue to screw up their products and I've moved on.

no update at least for Sierra. What a pity. I loved this App. And there is no substitution

Just wanted to echo your words here. Used to be my favorite developer as well, but alas they've gone off the rails this past year.

Now they blame Apple for Chronories being discontinued. By the same logic, they should have stopped selling CleanApp yet they haven't. They could have continued to sell it outside the App Store as they already were and as other developers have proven, it's possible to verify an App Store purchase to give someone a license to the version right from the developer. "Why have we stopped selling Chronories? Apple implemented some major modifications to the way applications are allowed to interact or access data from different applications. Unfortunately, Chronories is one of the applications that are severely affected by these decisions. While technologies like "Sandboxing" improve the general security of the whole system, several applications can no longer be maintained as before. Even updates to the existing app are nearly impossible because Sandboxing is required for any further update. This is we had to stop selling Chronories... although we really liked it a lot." http://www.syniumsoftware.com/support/faq/chronories/why_have_we_stopped_selling_chronories.html

Anybody know of a near identical replacement to Chronories? Their excuse for axing development is total BS, still works flawlessly on Mavericks (never opened it on Yosemite, but backlogged because they killed third party TRIM on that OS)

Still love them as developers, especially their genealogy software and CleanApp 5 beta.

Wish they had made it open source so someone could continue developing it. Hard to find a solid replacement that logs all the daily metadata that influenced you on a particular day.

This site is the only source of info on the discontinuation. Synium's site has scrubbed almost all mention of Chronories. THANKS to the posters here.

As far as Apple changes to data import, I didn't care about any of that --I had to disable all the (to me) nonsense about weather, apps used, etc. I just wanted a quick-access journaling app, and Chronories worked great for that.

Now, on 10.9.5, search and bookmarks stopped working, which prompted my search to find out what's going on. I can't STAND it that I invested a ton of work/journaling to no permanent avail.

I'd NEVER buy another Synium product. I want stability.
