1.5.1602 June 2019

Mux and tag your MP4 files.

Overview

Subler is a simple MP4 file-format muxer and tagger. Quickly remux your MKV or MOV files to MP4, or add new subtitles tracks to your MP4 file.

Features
  • Creation of .tx3g subtitles tracks, compatible with all Apple's devices (iPod, AppleTV, iPhone, QuickTime)
  • Mux video, audio, chapters, subtitles, and closed-captions tracks from MOV, MP4, and MKV
  • Raw formats: H.264 Elementary streams (.h264, .264), AAC (.aac), AC3 (.ac3), Scenarist (.scc)
  • iTunes metadata editing

What's new in Subler

Version 1.5.16:
  • Upgrades the OCR engine to Tesseract 4. Language data files to improve the results quality can be download directly from Subler OCR preferences panel
  • Fixes importing AAC audio tracks from some malformed MOV files

Requirements for Subler

  • macOS 10.12.0 or later

Thanks for a wonderful utility for movies on the mac. there is a problem that needs to be fixed by installing an updated codec, the info is here - http://www.techisky.com/how-to/solve-subler-mountain-lion-passthrough-ac3-audio-issue.html#comment-9109 It solved my strange crash and no response issues in multiple versions that had worked until an update. Also if it could be updated to an 64bit program

It's great when it works which is far less often than when it crashes. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything that can replace it.

You should report the issues on https://bitbucket.org/galad87/subler/issues?status=new&status=open so I can fix it, if you want it fixed ;)

I would be glad to make a donation if I could get instructions I could understand. E.g . , I can't figure out how to add HARD subtitles -- it's a great app, but I need clearer directions -- non-technical.

You can't add hard subtitles in Subler, only soft subtitles. If you want hard coded subtitles you can try HandBrake. Hard coded subtitles requires the whole video track to be reencoded.

Interface is very intuitive, apart from the strange Queue. As it takes just seconds to add titles to a track, I'm not sure why it needs a render queue at all and that mux operations are not just performed when ready. Probably goes back to a time of weaker and single processor computer. Worth considering retiring queue. What's especially awesome is that if your subtitles have an issue, it's very easy to preview the rendered file and then re-edit with corrected subtitles without having to rebuild from the original media file. I.e. Subler is non-destructive, it's final videos as editable as text in a Word Processor. Keep in mind you do need a subtitle application and the only one which is any pleasure to use at all is the fairly expensive Chinese Subtitle Edit Pro available on Apple's App Store only. Unlike Apple's software, the nitty gritty (which is important when encoding) is not hidden from you in Subler. But it's not cluttered either. Subler is one of the most impressive free applications I've ever used and much better than many expensive AV tools. Real professional software.

Remux might take a long time on a slow disk, and if you have to remux multiple files is better to do it sequentially, to avoid trashing the disk. Or you can use the queue to automate a log of actions.

Either way, the queue is optional, you can just save files (File -> Save, cmd-s) and ignore it.

Thanks for the explanation.

With SSD's disk thrash is probably in the past. I'd suggest hiding the queue functionality if you detect an SSD on start up. A preference would allow re-enabling queue (advanced functionality for specialised use which is really not necessary). The queue is clutter at this point on modern computers.

My Steve Jobs moment of the day over. As software for pros, you can burden them with whatever options you want. God knows Handbrake crucifies us just to get a reasonable YouTube or Vimeo ready export (and the HB interface is better than it was with a hide advanced options checkbox).

Thanks again for amazing software Damiano!

PS. If you ever decided to do a pro option, you could make the queue option a pro feature. How would you like us to send you money?

Nice and powerful little tool to assemble video MP4 files. I find it irreplaceable to arrange media files in MP4 containers, including metadata and optimize the final files. A perfect addition to ffWorks or similar encoding programs.
