SmartSynchronize

3.5.106 July 2015

Compare and merge directories and files.

Overview

SmartSynchronize is a multi-platform file and directory compare tool. It allows you to compare files or perform 3-way-merges, both with the ability to edit the file contents. SmartSynchronize is optimized for comparing directory structures (for example, of software projects), and can keep them synchronized.

Features
  • Very easy to use.
  • File compare with possibility to edit and merge.
  • File compare with detection of inner-line changes.
  • Directory compare with ability to synchronize changes.
  • Configuration of ignored files and directories.
  • Ability to store and reopen profiles. (directory-pairs)

To run SmartSynchronize you will need a valid license file. You can either purchase a license or download a demo license for evaluation purposes.

What's new in SmartSynchronize

Version 3.4.3:
Improvements
  • File Compare
    • Select lines using the line number column
  • Directory Compare
    • Remembers and restores bounds for profile
Fixed Bugs:
  • File Compare
    • Did not resize line number gutter if lines were added or removed
    • With "Ignore All Whitespaces" selected, blocks differing in only whitespaces were shown as completely modified
  • File Merge
    • Inline changes did not show up correctly for left-middle blocks
  • Directory Compare
    • Filter input field did not handle Ctrl+Backspace
  • GUI
    • Windows, message dialogs: buttons might move to the right after, e.g. after showing the Lock screen
    • Tree control
      • Selection might be cut off
      • Double-clicking outside a node triggered the double-click action though no selection change occured, so it operated on the current selection
      • Right-clicking while a popup menu already was showing showed a second empty one
    • Exiting from the Welcome screen directly after the setup wizard let the setup wizard occur again on the next launch
    • MacOS: installation update failed with "cannot run program 'tar'"
    • SWT (Windows): some memory corruptions
Noteworthy Changes:
  • Support for macOS 10.14
  • Requires 64-bit systems now

Requirements for SmartSynchronize

  • OS X 10.9.0 or later

It would be nice if I could try out the darn program without having to obtain a trial license. Not to mention the useless, forced, scrolling through the license agreement. Whatever. Deleted.

HIghly recommended!!! This thing actually compares the files. Rsync messed up my class notes really bad by corrupting certain files I synced creating a terrible mess on my system where I had annotated PDFs (which I spent hours on), mixed in with hundreds of new PDFs many of which were corrupted due to Apple's botched Mountain Lion rsync implementation. This software solved the problem once and for all. Also, it is free to use in a non-commercial application. Perfect for students. Many thanks to the developers!!!

Unison is for file/folder synchronization, not file/folder comparison and merging. Completely different tools for completely different purposes.

39 USD are far to much. I recommened the free KDiff3 http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/, released under GNU GPL.
