Create SQL databases graphically.

Overview

SQLEditor is a SQL database design and entity relationship diagram (ERD) tool for OS X. It replaces typing SQL by hand with dragging, dropping, and clicking, making database creation faster and easier. And if you already have a database, then SQLEditor can help you see what it looks like by reverse engineering a diagram. Or use SQLEditor to create documentation with the new design report exporter. SQLEditor may be useful if you need to design a database or you have existing databases to manage. It's also useful if you're learning about database design.

SQLEditor supports exporting database designs to MySQL, Postgres, SQLite, Oracle, and others. Plus it also imports and exports Ruby On Rails Migration files.

Group License: $349, Single User License $79. Discounts for qualified educational orders.
Note SQLEditor 3 is a paid upgrade from earlier versions. Free upgrades for licenses purchased on or after 1 March 2014.

This product is instrumental in designing but also communicating to your clients what it is you've done. I highly recommend this software at any cost. A picture is worth a saved day. I use this product religiously.

Solid app, allowing you to draw ERD diagrams, which get reliably translated into the native script language - SQL or otherwise - of several databases, including: MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Filemaker, Rails and Django. Able to also connect to several databases and create the ERD diagram on-the-fly, thereby making it somewhat easier to reverse-engineer the data design of existing systems. These features alone make it worth the money.

I will deduct 1 star, however, because the developer has been announcing version 3 for well over a year, making existing users fearful that development has been abandoned. Also, although it is a solid data design tool, it is seriously lacking in the graphics department: the user is given very little control over the graph's appearance - it is impossible to even change the font used in the graphs, let alone change stroke and background colours. More polish on the interface is still needed, as it still looks like a java app programmed by a newbie.

PROS: solid ERD diagramming tool, which reliably produces good database scripts - in SQL as well as in other languages - which is directly usable in a variety of systems.
CONS: very little graphics configuration options - your graphics will all look like java charts from the 1990's. Interface needs polish.

This is very useful for me which is about SQLEditor. I am a student of computer science and SQL is my favorite book to do practice related to database. This full website contains a large collection of stuff which is very useful for all of us. Buy our best safety flooring from http://safetyflooringco.co.uk/safety-flooring.html

Great program and support. The latest release would not launch and the support I received from the developer was excellent -very responsive and got me a version of the program that worked. He also got the latest build working within a week. Turned out to be a JAVA issue. I highly recommend this program.

I tested SQLEditor with an SQLite database. It imported the table structures fine, using the appropriate driver. After playing with it a bit, I realize that SQLEditor only shows relationships between tables that are set up as a "foreign key" within the tables. SQLite (and I think others) don't have a foreign key parameter for fields within tables. I set up relationships in SQLite within views. Unfortunately, SQLEditor does not appear to show views or the relationships tat they contain. So it seems of little use to show or edit the structure of my SQLite databases.

SQLite does actually support foreign keys in terms of parsing - however it does not enforce them (i.e. they are ignored). Hopefully one day they will support them fully. So theoretically this tool should be able to see these implied relationships and display the ERD for SQLite. I've not tried it so cannot say - if not you could ask the developer, it sounds like he is quite responsive. Incidentally, you can force SQLite referential integrity using triggers - plenty of articles about this online. Hope this helps. Now, what I'd really like to see is TOAD for MySQL on OS X... :)

I just noticed my comment here about foreign keys. As it is now so out of date, I thought I'd post a quick update just to say that SQLite acquired native foreign key constraints as of v3.6.19, so my 2008 (!) comment is now redundant. I'm sure people already knew this, but just in case :)
