I'm another long-time Eudora user looking for a replacement. Postbox is not it. Postbox is garbage: The list of problems is long, starting with ZERO support or even any way to contact them with issues or suggestions.

Here's a few of the (dys)functional reasons I'll be looking for an email client that works-- 1. Postbox handling of attachments is atrocious. I need all attachments automatically be downloaded to a specified location; working with documents is my life. With Postbox, I cannot tell where they are, and clicking on them does not produce consistent results. 2. Postbox does not consistently download email from the server. 3. Postbox does not consistently respond to command to move message to another location. 4. Postbox advanced search function is crippled without a look "anywhere" function (remember that from Eudora?) 5. HUGE; Postbox does not allow opening multiple message box windows. You can sort email with filters (which are fussy and don't work easily) but then all those new emails disappear into the multitude of folders but I NEVER KNOW THEY'VE ARRIVED because I can't keep multiple boxes open. This is a fatal flaw.

If you think any of my complaints are wrong, please feel free to correct me. I looked at Postbox pathetic "forum" site and found nothing helpful on any of the above.

Repeat: CAUTION--Postbox is not fully functional and will screw you up if you need a reliable email client.

Robio--If I could or knew how, I'd upgrade my review to 2.5 or 3 stars; it's functional but still has lots of problems. This is after using it for months.

1. Attachments--Yes, you can view attachments received list. But the problem is Postbox does NOT download the attachments automatically from the server (at least as far as I can tell). IOW, if you don't open them, they will be gone from your server when the email is removed (right?). If you need to go back and open that attachment that was sent to you six months ago? Tough. I want all my attachments downloaded to a defined location at the same time as the mail. The attachments pane in preferences is not helpful.

Related to attachment issue is difficulty of finding email to archive. I don't want Postbox taking up space on my startup solid state drive. With Eudora I could park it all on a separate drive. With Postbox, I can barely figure out where the heck the files are.

2. Server connection--Only occasional crashes, so it's passable. One time it crashed and didn't remember the prior session, so I got duplicates of a hundred emails. Very annoying and time wasting.

3. Moving mail. I still have issues: The thread/no thread settings make sorting and moving complicated. And the auto move filters are very hard to set up to work because of the complexity of multiple accounts. I have to really fuss to get each filter to do what I want. In fact, the handling of multiple accounts is generally a hassle.

4. Searches. "Nobody has ever done search better than Eudora." True by my experience. One point is a similar problem to 3 above; you cannot search across all accounts at once. And I have no idea what you're referring to with your search tricks. I want it to work without being a programmer...

5. Windows. Tabs? where are they? The lack of being able to open multiple windows or even a list of mailboxes for easy drag and drop is a major flaw. If you mean having the names of boxes across the bar, that's a minimal improvement; you still can't see what's in the box without going there which closes the prior box.

And you're right, I'm not going to be happy until someone replaces the functionality of Eudora. Postbox isn't it, and the fact that it's the best there is says something about the Mac OS X development community, the style of email people have moved to, some other factors I'm not aware of, or all of the above.

The lack of support is the final straw. I can't wait until someone puts out a better product and works with users to improve it. I'll pay for it! Where are you developers?

EMC totally does not work for me. I've tried on both Mac Pro running 10.6 and MacBook running 10.5.8. I have lots of Eudora email and I wanted to carry forward. I've wasted hours trying to make Mail to be stable on 10.6 (can barely get it to see servers), and EMB does not straighten up boxes or bring filters across. Worthless.

I sure wish there was a tool to save Eudora archives in new email server with similar functionality. Maybe when I figure out how to make Mail work, I'll just have to leave Eudora for archives and reconstruct all my boxes and filters. And computers are supposed to save time.
