As far as tangible real world concepts go, the story behind BlackRose seems pretty crazy...but when you look at what's going on in the world today, I find it actually rings pretty true.

It's a first person shooter, but it's quite different from other shooters because it avoids the current trend of uncanny realism instead taking the user back in time to when playability was king. And in this regard, I can definitely say the gameplay is very much fun! Ronja (the main character) isn't mega sexy like Lara Croft, but she's no plain jane like (the original) Joanna Dark the end, I actually came to quite like her style and attitude. She has all the standard moves you'd expect from this kind of game, but an extra ability I haven't seen in first person shooters before is Ronja's ability to dodge enemy fire with frontal and back flips. The camera switches to the 3rd person and pans around her when she does a flip giving you a nice view of her surroundings, then always rotates back to being directly behind her so the switch back to first person isn't disorientating. And the enemies are fun to play against - they surrender if you catch them by surprise, and even occasionally shoot one another. There is also a distinct difference in gameplay when you play stealthily and when you just spray bullets (I personally prefer the latter) which was enough to make the second play through a different experience than the first.

The dialogue is very good and well thought out, but there are no fancy voice-overs; all subtitles. I don't see that as a down-side though, but maybe others might. The music score is also very cool and adds to the intensity of the gameplay. Overall I'd say BlackRose is very much worth the price and maybe a bit more.
