There's a nice "password assistant" built into OSX as part of the Accounts preference pane (click on "Change password", and then on the lock button). Someone (not me) wrote a wrapper that allows to call it as a standalone application, you can find it here: http://www.codepoetry.net/products/passwordassistant

I actually find this a very nice idea. When I don't have my external monitor connected, I often find that some of my menubar extras get hidden by the application menus, thus becoming inaccessible.

For those who keep asking what this program does: it's simply a do-nothing application with a single one-letter menu: "M". What this achieves is freeing most of the menubar, so that all your menubar extras are accessible on the right.

There's a built-in way to add blank separators to the dock. You can see it here: http://zzamboni.org/brt/2007/11/21/real-separators-for-the-leopard-dock/

These are true separators, not empty scripts or apps - however they are always blank, no way (that I know) of getting them to show an image.

Some of these are nice sounds. One problem is that many of the files are 4 seconds long, even when the sound itself takes one second or less, with three seconds of silence at the end. I think these should be cut off.

I should have mentioned this is in 10.5.3 on a MacBook Pro, and that I have created the serial port as indicated in the ReadMe.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, I don't have a preferences file! The program didn't make it that far. The error appears while the splash screen is still displayed, before it asks me for the port to use.

Any other ideas? I really would like to give this a try.

This is my preferred Mac port of Emacs: it is frequently updated, comes with many packages, and stays true to the original Emacs.

This is a very useful application. On a Mac it suffers from "not looking like a Mac app" (as others have commented) because it is implemented in Java, but in exchange it is cross-platform, so you can easily share mindmaps with users using Windows or Linux. It has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get over it, you can quickly and easily use it to brainstorm, to create outlines, to plan projects or papers, etc.

This is very nice. It would be great if the hotkey could also be set as a toggle between two settings (otherwise you always have to use the menu to get back to portrait mode).

Currently I use an AppleScript that toggles between portrait/landscape settings on my external monitor, and which I trigger using QuickSilver. If the keystroke could be used as a toggle, I would ditch my current solution and use this program.

Really nice timer program. The system-wide hotkey makes it very easy to set up new alarms, and the ability to handle multiple timers simultaneously is very useful, as is the variety of ways in which the notifications can be made.

In addition to what IanWeir wrote, there's the included Grab.app (in /Applications/Utilities/) for grabbing screenshots of portions/whole screen, timed screenshots, etc.

This looks interesting - unfortunately when I run the program, shortly after the splash screen appears, I get a dialog that says "An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down."

Any ideas about what could be wrong? Thank you.
