Okay, full disclosure: I’ve been using this software for less than 24 hours, so my experience is limited, thus far. However, I’m giving it five stars based on what little I’ve used, so far.

MainMenu Pro combines the functionality of several utilities I’ve used in the past, several I currently use, and even has some features I’ve never seen before. The one that absolutely amazed me—and is frankly worth the $14.95 I paid, by itself—is “Vacuum Apple Mail Index.”

WIth hundreds of thousands of emails (spanning well over a decade) in nine separate IMAP accounts and several hundred server-based subfolders, my email had slowed to a crawl. Launching and even viewing folders, for the first time since launch, would often take several minutes on a 10-month-old, quad-core i7-baesd MacBook Pro. AppleCare was unable to help; forums were unable to help; I just assumed it was standard fare for large IMAP accounts such as mine. After running Vacuum Mail Index, folders with 2,500-3,000 messages pop up in 1-3 seconds.

Don’t get me wrong; the feature set is awesome, and I’ve been pleased with several maintenance routines I’ve run, but this one feature—Vacuum Mail Index—is more than worth what I paid. As I bought the Family Pack, I’ll be installing this on all our machines. It is absolutely amazing.
