Following on from my previous post I have heard (very quickly) from the developer. They say :

"Sorry, the update caused an issue with compression, so we have reverted back to the previous version while we work it out. You can download the previous version from or website: http://thelittleappfactory.com/ripit/

We hope to have the issue fixed next week and will then re-release the update."

I'm guessing they are therefore saying NOT to use 1.6.4 until it is fixed.

Very pleased by the quick response and subsequent follow up mail I received, again very quickly, seems that they have found an issue and are correcting it. Well done TLAF

In the brief period that 1.6.4 was available I updated my machine.
Now when launching to rip a DVD I own its says the DVD is encrypted and needs some more software installed to decode it.
Apparently this is an anonymous process an I can remove it at any time from the PREFS/COMPRESS menu.
No mention of what this software is or where it being installed. I have accepted the install but nothing extra seems to get installed although the software then performs OK. I have mailed the developer but no reply as of yet.
Strange 1.6.4 has been pulled and a little worrying.
Also the developer really needs to update the Handbrake CLI plugin to 0.9.6 from 0.9.4.
Overall the product works OK but support seems to be none existent (website hasn't been updated this year) and the sudden disappearance of 1.6.4 needs explaining ASAP.

3.5.4 update now crashes on exit (app quit unexpectedly) on my Snow Leopard MacMini install.

Thanks to Elgato no longer having support forums they have removed the ability to :-

a) Logging the fact that theres a problem to the wider community for discussion.
b) Using the link they used to supply to downgrade to a previous version.

Now it may only be me with this problem (though never experienced anything like it on previous releases) but luckily I have kept previous versions and have downgraded back to 3.5.3 with no issues.

Come on Elgato bring back the support forums and downgrade links and also make this product what it needs to be which is a stable, Airplay supporting, market leading piece of software.

I'm somewhat confused as to how this manages to squeeze the InstallESD.dmg file and all the other things needed onto a 4gb disk when a disk utility restore of the InstallESD.dmg file fails due to lack of space on a 4gb disk??
Is this script doing something clever or is it not putting everything onto the disk??
Am using an 8gb disk and disk utility restore of InstallESD.dmg file in the mean time.
Like the idea of this utility especially if I could use a 4gb drive and not waste so much of the 8gb one.

That was the point of my post. You CAN use a 4gb stick with this utility. It creates what looks like a perfectly usable copy of the Lion install, though I have not tried it. A disk utility restore of the InstalESD.dmg image will NOT go onto a 4gb stick. My query what why were the 2 processes different.
