There's been a lot of shouting in recent weeks about the version of MacCleanse included in the March bundle and the subsequent behaviour of both commercial parties involved.

I too fell foul of this fiasco and was annoyed by 1) the unannounced downgrade of my licence by Koingo, 2) the tone of their subsequent communications, and 3) total failure by MacUpdate to accept any responsibility.

Indeed the conduct of both parties in bringing this problem about, dumping the problem on their mutual customers, and carrying out their squabbles in public, has done neither party any credit. The mean-spiritedness of the "warning" on MacUpdate's pages for Koingo products just adds a lingering nasty taste to the affair.

HOWEVER the important thing is that this is a fine piece of software, well supported and with no real competitors. It costs $15.95 to upgrade from the bundled version to the latest offering and there's the option to pay a subscription of $5 per year to stay up-to-date [mind you, if you take the subscription option and subsequently cancel, your licence expires 12 months later].

It's a good value, good quality product. Let's all stop shouting and move on.

This is a nice app, which I tried out for a few days and then paid up my $15. Since then it has started to crash with irritating frequency. I use Snow Leopard.

The developer is a one-man [or apparently at this time a "no-man" operation] who offers no user support. Frustrating, but then I should have noticed the old posting dates on the positive reviews.

Still, it's a nice product when it works. There would be room for a little tidying-up and smoothing out of the workflow, but if the developer ever gets back to work and solves the stability issue I'd give it 4 or even 4 1/2 stars even without any further development.

$15 would seem reasonable for a product that works properly, but for now I'm not sure how to separate "value" from "overall rating", so both get 2 1/2 stars.
