Great program for what it is and what it costs. It's not as full featured as iBank or most of the other well-known finance apps, but keep in mind that it's not even 1.0 yet. The application is elegant & beautiful, simple, as of late has been rock solid, the developer is responsive and friendly, and the cost is great (including free upgrades up to version 2.0).

Most of the cons to speak of are minor (such as no distinct entry point for check numbers, though you can put them in the notes for the transaction). The biggest con of the app is that development is slow, due to the developer being a student. That being said, the potential for this app is high, and when the developer begins putting more time into it, I expect big things.

I forgot to mention that there is a corresponding iPhone/iPod touch app that syncs fully with the desktop version. I absolutely love the app, and it's a great way to enter transactions on the go, to be synced to the full version later.

I've been a customer for 1.5 years, so I know how slow development is. I did note in my review that the slow development is the biggest con to this application. The updates have been coming out constantly, it's just that the 0.82 version (multiple currency support) was in beta for nearly a year, going through 17 or 18 different beta iterations. 0.82 was just released yesterday, as a matter of fact.

Regardless, Squirrel works for me, it's elegant, simple, fast, and the developer is responsive. I do have some minor quibbles, but there's nothing so major as to make me switch to another program.

As for your comments on developer collecting user data, that's just not true. I had heard this rumor before, so I fired up Little Snitch, and examined if and where any information was being sent. The only time information gets sent is when it is checking for updates, or when the user utilizes the built in browser, both of which can be avoided if the user wants to.

Excellent program for a freeware app. Nice interface, good performance, and the iSight UPC scanner is one heck of a feature.

Am I to believe that you have taken advantage of OpenCL and Grand Central Dispatch? If so, I'll use this program exclusively. We need to support developers who take advantage of these great technologies and push their adoption.
