I have been a heavy usenet user since 1991. I need a good program on mac for this. News was one of the biggest reasons why I could not switch 100% to mac, but had a windows box running Forte Agent.
Then Unison 1.x came. It was good enough to replace Forte Agent.
Unison 2.x is a good upgrade. Just click on a nzb file and the program is downloaded, checked, PAR checked and unrared. Very elegant when it works.

But Unison is still leaps behind PCs Newsbin. No database for downloaded stuff. No duplicate check. Unison have a nasty habit to not find all articles in a post, same post works in Newsbin.

With OSX 10.8 a real nasty bug is in the program. Unison pauses mid download. I emailed Panic support, and got answer that 10.8 is not supported (this was a week before official release of 10.8, maybe Panic think they support 10.8 now) I have this pause problem on all my macs using 10.8 with Unison.

To make this a great product:
Fix the bugs
Make it easier to download PAR files. Today unison hides the PAR files.
Unison have to automatically stop downloading when disk space runs out. Today it Unison just continues to download the whole list, and everything is a mess with 0 byte files.
A database that stores what you have downloaded and do a crc check so that you don't download the same file several times.
And please add Power Nap support. That would be the ultimate news reader.

As far as I know, Unison is the best/easiest newsreader for mac.

I have used usenet since 1994.
Have been a heavy downloader. When I switched to mac, my biggest problem was that it was no easy/good newsreader for mac. I had to have a PC just for that work and used Agent and later Newsbin.

But then Unison came. I have been using it since early 1.04 stage. The first versions did not work great for me, but after that: no problem.

This is a no-frills, easy and working usenet reader and downloader. It does not have all the bells and wistles like Newsbin on PC has, but I would not trade this program for that.

The program is so simple. Just type your server. Drop the .nzb file: and its done.

Quick and stable. Have downloaded over 16 terra the last 12 month with this program.

The infrastructure on Mac is far superior than PC when it comes to news, par, unrar and split and concat.

Get this program. And get newzbin accont and giganews. Unlimited downloads. Everyting that is released to the world is avaible there. Fast..

Panic support rules. When I had an issue, they helped me fast. They also have had free upgrades since 2003. Real value for money.

OSX 10.5 has taken out one of my favorite features: Sending/receiving SMS via the Adressbook. This program almost fills the void by the stupid Apple move.

This is a great program for listening and recording radio arround the world. Using this program, it takes just minutes to find the program you want to record. For me, living outside the US, this gave me a chanse to listen to loads of US program I always wanted to listen to.
The program has a really slick interface. A great searchfuntion and a programguide that works really good.

I can't really give justice to the program. If you like radio, download the demo and test it. It is a win win situation.
