Maybe I am not clever enough to see the shortcomings of TTP but it's always done a good job for me. I had 4 and 5 and on the basis of past positive experience have now upgraded to 6.

The key advantage so far in 6 is the ability to create an edrive without having to partition from scratch. It was very quick and glitch free. The main tools now all work much faster - optimising, tests etc. This is a big advantage for me at least. The volume cloning tool is also useful. Carbon Copy Cloner works well but so, on first try, does this and quicker too.

The ability to install on 3 machines is a massive step forward. I have mbp x2 and a mp and now a clearer conscience.

I haven't tried the other maintenance utilities so can't compare. But it's instructive that in ten years of mac ownership I have not felt the need to try elsewhere.

As for comments below about the control panel the standard thresholds are high but it really is no big deal to change them. I guess some people are just happiest when they are complaining!

TTP is not for novices or nervous new mac owners but in my experience regular TTPing it keeps my macs fizzing along just fine.

Creating an eDrive on the main hard drive is far from useless. All the disk maintenance modules (Volume rebuild, optimisation etc) work much quicker than if you run them from a boot DVD or Target Drive. For general maintenance this is undoubtedly the best way. If you're a heavy user of the HD (e.g.Video editing) optimisation makes a big difference.

Of course you need an external option (boot disc or TTP on another machine) in case there are major problems with a drive. It would be foolish not to do this. But don't underestimate the advantage of an on board eDrive for the majority of times when the HD is fine.

I agree 12GB for the eDrive is demanding if you have a low capacity HD although this is becoming less and less of an issue as standard capacity gets bigger and bigger.

I've tried to make it work on my 2.6 C2D 10.5.7 but it won't. The developer's suggestion was to download the latest version from their link but it made no difference.

Firefox rejects the swfcatcher.xpi :

"Sothink SWF Catcher" will not be installed because it does not provide secure updates"

I've tried the fix suggested on the Sothink site but to no avail. I can't be the only person having this problem. Sothink need to rethink and produce something that installs effortlessly and works on a mac. If I wanted this kind of hassle I'd be using a PC.

I have just installed this and now my email account passwords in Entourage have been cleared and cannot be re-entered. Is anyone else having this problem?

If anyone has any suggestions for fixing this or un-installing this update please let us know.

I am running 10.5.5 on 2.6 C2D
