The link to the version with improved privacy (w/o built-in updater) appears to be broken. Use this link:

If the application appears to be damaged or does not start on every user account, then log in as administrator, launch terminal and repair its permissions:

1. type (without quotes):
"sudo chmod -R 755 "
2. drag the application onto the Terminal window,
3. hit Return and enter your admin password.

If you create a new login and PWG locks the window before you saved the login, your new account data will be lost without warning if you quit the application from the lock window.
This happened to me a few times.

Best solution: PWG should save new logins before locking (at least if the corresponding preference is selected!!!). Alternatively, the "quit" button could be disabled or a warning could pop up.

try this java app:

Seems to be German only.

You may need to activate java (from your applications/utilities folder)

As mentioned, you need Java to use the proposed app.

I'm still on Snow Leopard, so I have Java installed by default. For newer versions of OS X I found this link on MU:

I did not try this Java installation, though. The app itself works for me, at least - but it is extremely poor compared to the original "Mediathek".

Apparently the original "Mediathek" project is discontinued and its server is taken offline. RIP.

I don't have any idea for a workaround for 10.5 PPC.

There are a few recorders for TV programmes on the internet like onlinetvrecorder, save.TV, Bong.TV and others.

Hint: The installer routine will ignore your settings if you don´t want dropbox to launch on startup.

Since the "installer" is the dropbox application itself that copies itself into your applications folder, you can install (copy) it manually and it won´t mess up your setup.

Why would anyody need this hint? - My local dropbox folder resides on a volume that needs to complete its mounting process before dropbox starts. Therefore I wrote my own launchAgent for dropbox.

This software is unbelievably great! By its modular architecture it is very versatile. However the it takes a little time to learn. The gui is not intuitive so you better watch the tutorial videos to understand the concept.

Only drawback: I have an issue with the quartz composition plugins. Most of them work on my administrator account only.

Solved: you need write permissions on the application itself. In my case I changed permissions of its group ("staff") to r/w.

A few months ago I gave PW Gorilla a try to manage my passwords.

It works great! Payed solutions like 1pw certainly offer more fancy features, but basically gorilla does all that´s needed, too.

p.e.: I use it with dropbox, the iApp "dropsafe" on my mobile device and an auto-synced USB stick (database+gorilla applications). Thus, I can access all my passwords on my Mac, anywhere by internet connection, on my mobile device or on USB stick (even on windows!).

I don´t want to miss it!

my suggested improvements:
- mac-like interface
- full integration of non-url locations such as applications, files, disk images, WLAN/VPN...
- optional sendkey functionality for paste-protected input fields

Thank you, developers, for your great work!

No problems here. Downloaded the software, installed it, loaded vst plugin - played.

Did you previous posters really have X11 installed? I also had wine preinstalled, maybe that made it work for me.

I didn´t yet test it thoroughly, so no review and no rating so far.

But as I can say, this software can be installed and can be used. It does not look quite mac-like and it seems a little bit dated (december last year), but it may well deserve a four or five star rating.

Nice idea, but realisation not yet good enough.

It calculates a random pattern of black/white pixels and displays it on screen. That´s noise - somehow. But unfortunately the result looks far too crisp to be considered "noise", respectively video noise. To gain speed, it also divides the screen into several divisions with each division to display the same pattern. Thus, the eye detects regular artefacts in the noise.

Suggested improvements:
- option to change screen resolution for screen saver (faster, more dirt through interpolation)
- pattern calculation and display by row (as is with analog video)
- previous pixel (horiz.) influences random color status of actual pixel
- neighbouring pixels shade each other (horizontal)
- option to influence the video noise with audio input (advanced suggestion)

to get localized versions: goto the all languages site, copy the download link into clipboard, paste it into the url address field, and replace the version number e.g. "13" to "14" - go!

German localization link:

Make sure to get the "NoUpdate"-download, if you care about privacy.

Available thru advanced setup options before downloading (hidden by default).
