Simple yet powerful tool. Especially for older Macs, where system doesn't properly cool CPU or other parts until they are warm (see MacBook Pro with CoreDuo from 2007, or MacMini with Core2Duo from 2008) even on my 2013 MacBook Air, I get the fans to work faster than original SMC. With settings carefully done, you won't even need to tamper with it, just have it launch upon each reboot. Interface is a little bigger than I would have liked but clean and easy to understand. Besides, it only resides on your system bar.

I really liked this tool, what a shame they discontinued it... For MacUpdate Staff, please refer to http://googleblog.blogspot.de/2012/04/spring-cleaning-in-spring.html where we read "Starting today, the Picasa Web Albums Uploader for Mac and Picasa Web Albums Plugin for iPhoto will no longer be available for download. People can continue to use the uploader and plugin if they are installed. However, we’ll no longer maintain these tools. We strongly encourage people to download Picasa for Mac, which includes upload and iPhoto import features."

Again, version 6.12. 59.431 is a Release Candidate. The officially released version from Skype website is I cannot see any major improvements or even minor. Interface remains the same, of course!

This release is not proper. Please MacUpdate staff, avoid what has any digits except 0 in the third part (like past releases). Here your version is I go to the official site, it's downloading I hope the fixes introduced make the effort of my time spent on searching for the official release...

Official link: http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/skype-for-mac/downloading/

The update went smoothly. No changes detected... Still bulky UI :-)

With all due respect to the MacUpdate staff, especially regarding Skype and their mix-up of beta and release versions, I stopped downloading Skype from here and go directly to their website.

Today, I was right doing so again: here on MacUpdate, the release version is whilst on Skype.com/download is

From past versions, I now consider anything with a "59" a beta version or candidate release. This has nothing to do with the efforts of MacUpdate staff but rather the way Microsoft posts their versions. I do miss the good old 2.x days.

The 6.7.x interface is still more clunky than its Windows counterpart, the "compact" look is not compact in anyway and its necessity due to mobiles and computing, unfortunately forced. I dislike the Facebook integration and the "home page" is just a page with nothing interesting on it. I use it daily but there is no real competitor out there... Viber is trying, though.

This is becoming a joke. Today, the "official" download version from their website is v6.7.0.373. These guys have still a lot to learn about releases and versioning, it seems. What a shame for a product that once was so highly regarded.

I think that the middle third digit denotes a Release Candidate. I have previous versions of Skype DMGs and noticed that 6.x.y.z when y is not 0, then it's something else. Who knows.

The tool, in general, is simple in its GUI yet excellent for MKV operations. Version 5.0.1 worked very well on my iMac i7 computer. However, on a clean system installation, 5.2.0 crashes all the time. I hope the programmer will fix this problem that seems to be related to /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib according to Console (but doesn't affect 5.0.1 at all, however).
