200% better than Boom. Boom equalizes and can boost audio signal, runs at login and has a system tray icon. Hear has a far more impressive equalizer and a dozen more features than can customize your audio experience tenfold.

Overall 4.5 because I want a system tray icon. There is no way of knowing if it's running or not (besides listening).

Features 5 Best audio customization app period. Most features. High quality. (10band EQ or you can use 96 bands HAHA)

Ease 4 because of this insane transparency. I lose control of it and would rather it be a login process and remain in system tray

Value 4 cause it's $20!

STability 5 haven't had any problems with Mavericks 10.9.1

Comment: There is no system tray, nor user login item. There is a "Hear" process but only when the window pane is open. When you close it, it disappears as a process but still runs indefinitely (even through a restart). There is a no daemon from Hear either. I am baffled where the transparent background process is! The user manual states "The Hear Audio Server handles all the audio processing in background transparently"...

I believe GIMP is really powerful and performs with quality, but it just does not resonate with me. I remember using my Dad's Photoshop way before the Creative Suite and it was so intuitive. I was probably only fifteen years old or so, too.

So, my rating for Ease of Use is a bit low, because Photoshop is definitely is a standard with which we can judge GIMP. After all, Photoshop is being taught in high school! Why doesn't the GIMP team just model the program's layout after the standard (more than just the filters menu)?

As far as value and features, GIMP is the best free alternative to professional software. I would rather save my money for Photoshop and avoid the hassle of learning GIMP.

Sometimes I just want a quick blank screen to paint on, and the "Paintbrush" app does fine.

Does anyone know if and how you can easily create a marching ants border in GIMP? hehe, That would be awesome. I thought my friend used GIMP to do something like that ten years ago

1.8.1 causes severe lag when using the volume hotkeys on Mavericks 10.9.1

Global Delight, have you investigated?
