I decided that it would be great to back up ALL incremental changes to an illustration that I'm creating with Photoshop CS5 so I dusted off my copy of Sync Pro, version 7.0.12 (40), and put it to the test. Just to note: Time Machine's "once an hour" backup simply isn't sufficient -- too likely that prior desirable creative work can't be re-captured. The other alternative, using Dropbox incremental backups, is OK but I want my versioned backup files to be stored locally for instant retrieval when needed. So far Sync Pro is working great! The "Evolutive" backup feature stores prior file versions in individual "syncarchive" files, which you need to control-click and select "Show Package Contents" to see them for the particular file you're working on. So, for me, this is a great solution for my needs.

My system: 2011 15" MacBook Pro, Mountain Lion (10.8.2).

Just installed so I don't want to rate just yet. But it's working good for me, except for saving my own presets (doesn't work for me). I'm OK with some of the existing presets, so it'll work for me. $50 price is steep but I used the competitive upgrade (had a SRS iWow registration #) so it only cost me $20. Audio is vastly improved...so rich and full now!! Better than that iWow plugin I was using. Now I can have richer audio when using MOG (via FireFox).

1.5.8 CRASHES ON START UP

Well, this s*cks. I paid for the upgrade from 1.0 to 1.5, installed everything as indicated, and now it crashes on start up. I'm using a 2006 Mac Pro running 10.6.2. I've tried all the crash-prevention suggestions (such as deleting the preference file, etc.) in the MacSpeech Forums but nothing works. You're welcome to risk an upgrade yourself but you may want to wait 'til I hear back from MacSpeech tech support (I email my crash reports to them). I'll post any feedback they send me here.

Update to my previous review:
there's an option to set a keyboard shortcut to enable/disable the brightness without quitting Blackout, so that's good. Pretty much addresses my issues in another way, so I'll this 4 stars.

Hey MacUpdate: allow reviewers to revise their posted reviews!

Works fine but minimum/maximum brightness settings need obvious changes:

1) MINIMUM BRIGHTNESS SETTING. Nothing worse than accidently sliding a brightness setting to the mininim setting (which is 100% black) and then releasing the slider. Do that and your only option may be to invoke "Force Quit" and then blindly quit your running apps one-by-one 'til Blackout is quit. The minimum brightness setting should be selectable in the preferences settings.

2) MAXIMUM BRIGHTNESS SETTING. Currently the maximum brightness setting is something like 85% or so. This means that you have to quit Blackout if you momentarily need to have full screen brightness. The maximum brightness setting should be "OFF", or full brightness.

Also, though not essential it would be nice to have user-defined keyboard shortcuts to increase/decrease brightness.

Previous post had complaints about missing features in Firefox. Must be a newby. The basics: Firefox uses extensions to fill in feature gaps. Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Add-ons". Here's what you need:

1) To save full webpages download the extension called "Scrapbook" - it's similar to IE's Scrapbook feature in that it'll save the pages in a list within Firefox. Has ability to save full web pages internally in Folders, while keeping all the links in your saved pages clickable. Be sure to save your Scrapbook to a folder outside of your Firefox Profile folder in case you ever need to delete your profile folder to start fresh with Firefox. I saved my Scrapbook in a folder I named "Firefox Scrapbook" inside of my Documents folder. Note: you'll need to check "Enable Multi-scrapbook" in Scrapbook's options menu to be able to save your Scrapbook to another location. This is a fantastic extension that always works flawlessly for me.

2) To resize the text size, get extension "Zoom Toolbar" - this actually zooms the whole webpage larger, but I actually prefer that to just enlarging the text.

Grab Scroll does not work with Firefox 3.0.4. I have this setting: checked "Grab Scroll with:" and have selected "Keyboard + Primary Button" and Shift / tap Option selected. Any key combination option does not work. I did a fresh install of Firefox and it still doesn't work.

ImageWell works great for my needs. It's a WYSIWYG resizer, so you can see your image resize as you drag a slider. I've used many of it's features: adding borders & text to images, grouping multiple jpegs together to make a single jpeg, and even adding cartoon speech balloons. It can also save your PDF and PSD docs as jpeg, tiff, or png files. There's a bit of a learning curve to use all of it's features so maybe there's a way the developer can simplify the controls or make the controls more obvious (maybe use an inspector palette so the controls are always visible somewhere). Well worth the $20 since I use it quite often.

I have one problem with this app: new Edgies notes are created when I click at the screen edge. Setting the preferences to disable this feature does not stop the action. I deleted the preferences file but the problem persists. I have a dual monitor set-up on a MacPro, with all the latest Apple updates. This one problem makes this app unusable for me.
