Downie is what I call an “ALIVE” application. It keeps getting better day in day out and more and more video formats are added to its list. It might look like a one-trick pony at first try but its developer is committed to ride it skillfully and in my opinion he’s really doing a great job. ;-) Highly recommended. I do agree with all positive comments here especially with those who migrated to “Keyboard Maestro” after the golden age of Quickeys came to an abrupt end. I was also a fan of Quickeys and when the inevitable hit I was desperate to find a valid substitution. I’m glad that Keyboard Maestro is indeed a suitable program that not only filled the gap Quickeys had left but proved to be even more intuitive and functional than its good old rival. I use it in my office to automate the annoying repetitive data-filling procedures and haven’t so far experienced any issue with it. If you care for your wrists and why not - your mental sanity, then this product is tailor-made for you. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

Writing a comment on Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary is gilding the lily! Still, I can always write about my personal experiences that have been always more than positive. OALD has been my favorite dictionary for many years on end and now its electronic version has pushed up even higher its level of excellency and has made it a more indispensable tool for English and foreign students alike. Nearly all phrases are read by a clear human voice (not text to speech) and the well-thought combination of different colors for various parts of speech and meanings has undoubtedly made consulting new words a joy and not a chore. If you are not online you can always download voices to consult them offline but prepare yourself to download a hefty 1 GB file if you want both American and English pronunciations. At this modest price you can’t find a better dictionary on the market with the same features. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy).

As the owner of an old iMac I regret that I can’t install Downie on my computer. I’m still stuck with OS 10.7.5 and the minimal System for Downie is 10.8. However, I’ve seen this gorgeous application in action on many other Macs and know that its developer is moving heaven and earth to keep it updated for many sites and continuously adds new ones. I use other video downloaders that haven’t all the potentiality of Downie and can’t tackle with the new video formats as Downie does. I do hope to buy a new Mac one of these fine days and give Downie a go to work wonders for me as well. Until then I’ll be following closely and enthusiastically its further development on MacUpdate. Hello Krystof, for the time being I installed it on my Mac in office that runs Mavericks. When I buy my own Mac I'll promptly transfer my license onto it. It works great and I'm very pleased with it. Cheers.

This is another Darwinian evolution theory at its best - at least for a software! Since its first release in the late 80’s Default Folder has been continuously evolving from a tiny simple utility to a complex multifunctional app that can handle nearly everything you throw at it. I’m one of the lucky Mac users who have witnessed all its evolutionary path since its beginning until today and have never stopped admiring all the software engineering that has gone into it. Maybe it’s one of the rare cases that evolutionists and creationists agree on one thing: it's the most venerable “revolutionary” product for the Mac ever designed/created - bar none! Users like me who afford to buy a new Mac once in a blue moon are always looking for new utilities that help their good old Mac keep going in a fast changing computer world. While a few years ago a shiny 2,1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo could satisfy the wildest needs of a Mac user it's now hardly of any interest to a 10 year old school student who just considers it as an obsolete piece of furniture! Let’s face it; unless you are a professional user who earns a living on a computer you could hardly justify the purchase of a new Mac every two or three years. Fortunately there are developers out there who come up to our help with exceptional ideas that give our old Macs a new life for the price of a pizza! App Tamer by St. Clair Software has been my favorite program since its first release. It allows me to run several CPU hungry applications on my 2006 iMac that would otherwise be a core. The new version benefits from a very clean interface and allows me to determine on the spot how to dedicate limited resources to applications that will otherwise gobble up all my resources. It does its job with such elegance and transparency that I have the sensation of using a new Mac! Thanks to this utility I can still use efficiently my obsolete iMac and enjoy working simultaneously with several open applications that would otherwise break the back of my poor old companion! For the last three four days eMaps refuses to connect to Google Maps. I've tried it on several Macs with different IPs but the result has always been the same. Any idea what's going on out there? Could Emanuel please give us an explanation? Thanks.

This is indeed sad news. I use eMaps so intensively for my job that doing without it is simply more than flesh and blood can stand! Let’s hope for the best that Emanuele would do something about this inconvenience and bring a profound smile to our faces. In the meantime, those who like me can’t live without eMaps can go to http://www.instantstreetview.com and take a look at it. It’s indeed a survival kit but for the time being is better than nothing! Thank you Zampon for your information.

I wrote to Emanuele - the developer of eMaps who kindly explained to me the reasons why eMaps had suddenly ceased to function. They are basically what Zampom commented here except that the developer hopes he would one day rewrite the codes for a new version in his free time. Until then we have to stick to other possible solutions. Please read my previous comment for a solution that hasn’t all the bells and whistles of eMaps but does its job properly and partially fills the gap. As for exporting the places where labels are saved I invite aliw4009 to contact directly the developer. He’s a very kind soul and will surely work you through it. You can find his email at the bottom of "eMaps Quick Help”. All the best to all eMaps users.

I’m a very happy user of SmartScroll. I recently switched to Mavericks and have been using version 3.9.12 which unfortunately causes my Safari to quit every now and then. I get the message “Safari quit unexpectedly while using the Smart Scroll plug-in”. Does any one else experience the same issue? Thanks.

Hello. As a registered user of version one I would like to try the new version and eventually buy it. Unfortunately the new version doesn't allow me to test it because of the previous registered version. A message pops up telling me that the program was been installed for more that 150 days and refuses to run without registration. Is there a way to test the new version? Thanks.

To the developer:

This is a great product and has very useful sounds to eradicate the ambient noise and I'm willing to buy it. One thing stops me though: when I go to check out its price which is $7.95 shows €7.95 i.e. around $10.69. Add to this another 20% (VAT charged on European sales) and you come up with $12.82! I don't want to make a fuss but why do you presume that $7.95=€7.95! Thank you.

As I wrote before, this is a gorgeous product that has very well-made sounds and I bought it after a few days of trying it. Nonetheless I still argue that its price is NOT OBVIOUS at all and to make matters worse the new price shown on the developer's website is different from the one you see here. I regret I didn't receive any explanation from its developer in this regard. Still, despite the price issue if you need a simple and functioning program to combat your noisy surrounding then this is surely a valid product. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

I'd like to try this program but unfortunately it doesn't function for me. The first time I launched it all its menus were disabled. When I tried to relaunch it for the second time it showed a dialog box that its trial period was over! Something must be wrong here. Has anyone else got the same issue? For heaven's sake has anyone succeeded in upgrading to the new version from version two? I'm a registered user of this program and have been trying in vain since yesterday to buy my upgrade but their site just doesn't recognize my serial number even if I have already registered it with them.
