The developer, Ed Hamrick, has created an essential scanning tool. Not only does it support many legacy scanners, but one can tweak a scan before saving it to file. You can even save different tweaked versions of the scan [without having to do a physical rescan].

Add to this Ed's responsiveness to user messages, and diligence in fixing bugs, and I can heartily recommend buying this program.

One caveat: If, like me, you need to work with multipage scans, you will find the removal of the multi-page tweaking facility from version 9.4 disconcerting. Fortunately, version 9.3 is still available for download

If you have an older hardware or OS, not supported by the most current vuescan, older versions are available, as are versions for Linux and Windows.

There used to be an English-only localisation available, but I have not been able to fund it for recent versions. Given how big the localisation files are, these days, it would be nice to have it back again. Is that possible Mr Lemke? It would probably halve the download size for a large chunk of the customer base.

I know we can use tools to remove the unwanted localizations after download, but that can upset Apple's code-signing scheme.

Beware: Version 5.3 does not work on my Powerbook G4. It crashes so early into the launch that Apple's crash report dialogue is not activated. Have reverted to 5.2.3.

This bug was fixed shortly afterwards. I can confirm that 5.3.5 works on a Powerbook G4 under 5OS X 10.5.8.

BluePhoneElite seems to be the only application fro Symbian 6 phones that allows one to download SMS messages from phone to computer. Ditto the phone log [albeit seems unable to get call durations unless the call was made while connected to BluephoneElite.]

What I don't understand is why this has popped up in MacUpdate now. Version 2.2.8 came out in April 2010 and that version is what you get if you click the download link.

Hi dejoaz,

I can only speak for my Nokia X6. BE has to install a something on the phone. Once the phone and computer are talking by bluetooth, BE's message pane has a side panel with folders and subfolders. Your phone appears as one of the top level folders, the computer as another. CLicking on the folder displays its contents.

If you are displaying the phone SMS messages, they can be dragged to one of the computer folders. The message is deleted from the phone. Beware, this is irreversible. Messages cannot be copied from computer to phone.

BE does not handle MMS only SMS.

Runge-kutta is a good general purpose integrator, however Newtonian dynamics have special properties. It would be nice to have the option of a simplectic [canonical] integrator which would preserve the underlying canonical structure of the solution space.
