I have been using PDFPen for a couple of months now and have to say that the set of features is excellent. I mostly use this app for deleting pages and its OCR features.

However, I find it to be extremely buggy. It is almost impossible for it to do an OCR scan of any sizeable document without it crashing. If it doesn't crash it usually hangs, forcing me to force quit the app. If the bugs were crushed this would deserve the full five stars but it is not there yet.

I've been in an email exchange with the developer who walked me through a problem I had. He was extremely helpful, patient and quick to reply to my emails. Top marks for customer service.

This app allows me to do something I could never figure out before - password protect my email in Mail App. I definitely recommend this app for the paranoid among you or those who are interested in securing their important files. The tag says that this app replaces FileVault but I disagree. This blows FileVault away! I have never had anything but problems with FileVault; one of the worst apps that Apple ever made in my opinion.

As noted by the previous reviewer this app has come a long way in a short space of time, especially considering that this is a one man operation. I have found Schreiben to be a stable and simple word processor. The interface overhaul is well thought out and uncluttered. The icons in the toolbar are beautiful yet unintrusive. The use of an iTunes-like scrollbar is a nice touch. Michael, keep up the good work!

Developer: I would like to lend my voice to previous reviewers' calls for a major interface upgrade. There should be some way to access the iTunes playlists from within the program. Secondly, the windows should be resizable; in the sense of having corners that can be dragged. Furthermore, there is no way to search within larger playlist. Overall, there is way to much clutter and it doesn't feel Mac-like whatsoever. Unfortunately, since I feel that I am constantly fighting with the interface it kills the user experience for me. Like the last reviewer, I see the program being actively updated without the UI problems being addressed. On a positive note, the program is second to none at its primary purpose of slowing the track down and changing pitch. Developer, please do something. I am trying very hard to love this program.
