Smultron is a very capable text editor which has become my primary editor for my web projects. It takes a little time to warm up to the document list, which I hated when I first tried Smultron, but now I find it quite nice -- I just wish there were a way to switch between documents using key commands. (Command-Option-Up- and Down-Arrow are listed, but they don't seem to work.) It definitely works better than a horizontal tab bar when you've got a dozen or more documents open. It's got all the handy features you expect from a professional text editor, like split document viewing, syntax coloring, entab/detab, comment/uncomment, and so on -- definitely a great value for the price. Funky icons? I donno -- I always keep the icon bar for this app hidden, so they don't bother me personally. Give SigFeeder a try -- you've got nothing to lose.

Wow, JEDict's 3.x's interface sure wasn't gonna win any beauty pageants, but this "new Cocoa interface" (which doesn't seem to really be Cocoa) could win an ugly dog contest; definitely a turn for the worse. And the integrated web browser is completely unnecessary feature bloat. That being said, the new JLPT feature (which seems to only work after you've copied the app from the disk image to your HD, by the way) is cool, and it's still a great product, and a great value when compared to the cost of full-fledged electronic dictionaries.
