I just switched from QuicKeys due to its lack of updates for the past four years as well as its uncertain future.

I'm extremely happy with Keyboard Maestro. It actually does more than QuicKeys--and costs less. It does things a little differently than QuicKeys. However, I recreated about 75 shortcuts/macros and they function exactly as they did in QuicKeys. Well, not exactly. They function *better* in Keyboard Maestro. There aren't the little bugs and gotchas with Keyboard Maestro.

I highly recommend this app--especially for QuicKeys users.

We're approaching four years without an update. On top of other problems, Startly had major financial issues earlier this year. This does not bode well.

I went through a similar situation with iKey before I switched to QuicKeys. After a few years, iKey did post some updates, but it's never been the same and it hasn't kept up. Right now iKey has not been updated in two years

We have no idea if or when QuicKeys will be updated. If it's updated, we have no idea how much new development will be put into it--versus bug fixes--or how long it will be supported.

I've just switched to Keyboard Maestro, after waiting almost four years for a QuicKeys' update. Keyboard Maestro can do everything QuicKeys does (in a slightly different manner) and more. It has been under active development for years and the latest update was less than a month ago. At $36, it costs about a third as much as QuicKeys.

I recommend anyone considering QuicKeys to use Keyboard Maestro instead. If you are already using QuicKeys, switch to Keyboard Maestro. There are too many unknown factors with QuicKeys and all signs are pointing down. Based on my personal experience, this situation is not going to turn out well for QuicKeys users.

Correction: Startly has reduced the price of QuicKeys to $59. Keyboard Maestro still has a lower price but it's not a third of QuicKeys' price.

Another example: The app Spell Catcher is in a similar situation right now. The sole developer died. There has not been an update in years and all the site says is that news will be forthcoming. I discontinued using Spell Catcher. It is unwise to depend on essential software that has a very uncertain future.

This app has a very un-Mac-like interface. I prefer to use CleanMyMac simply because it looks like a Mac app rather than a Windows port.

Wow. I feel bad for the developer and Startly, but at least we know what the problem is now.

I've been holding off upgrading to Lion until a few apps were updated. QuicKeys is the only one holding me back now.

I've been patient, but I'm only going to give them a little while longer before they lose my business for good. With no word if or when an update will be available, we are forced to set our own time table on how long we will wait.

I certainly would not recommend purchasing QuicKeys until there's a Lion update (if that ever happens).

Beware. I cannot export any of my data using of the built-in format options. I have e-mailed the developer twice in the past year and have never heard back from him.

All of my data (thousands of records) are stuck in Wallet because none of the export options work. This may not happen to you, but if a problem does come up, don't expect to get it handled.

The Startly download page for QuicKeys says it is compatible with 10.5-10.6 and that it is "not yet Lion 10.7 compatible". "Yet" implies that it will be compatible with 10.7 at some point.

They also develop QuicKeys for Windows. I imagine that is a nightmare that requires a lot of their development time.

I'll be patient for the Lion update.

I paid $40 for Postbox 2, but I haven't been using it. There were a few nagging problems which I imagine they have solved with 2.5.

But, as far as I can tell, there's still no AppleScript support in 2.5. That's a deal breaker for me. I need to be able to execute AppleScripts from a filter rule.

It does exactly what I need it to do--convert FLAC to LAME Mp3.

It allows you to manage your addons for what? Firefox, Safari, Chrome, QuickSilver . . .?
