Straightforward text processor (was LetterWorks).

Overview

Letter Star allows you to write quality letters with ease and style. Features include:
  • Focus on the text to write while layout, formatting and default text are determined by a predefined stationery.
  • You can choose from the included stationeries or roll your own.
  • Create professional quality letters by faciliating pdf letter heads that print with your letters.
  • Address Book and vCard support allow you to fill in the receiver instantly via drag & drop.

After long, unsuccessful negotiations with and legal threads by the attorney of Round Lake Publishing Co., Inc regarding the LetterWorks name, Objectpark management decided to rename its productivity product for correspondence from "Objectpark LetterWorks (Pro)" to "Letter Star (Pro)".

Doesn't offer much. You can't double space... Give this app some bells and whistles damn it.

Thought I would try this as a quick alternative to using my InDesign template for letters. Precise alignment is a pain, though it may be just a one time thing. There is noway to change the envelop settings (despite what the guide says: there is no item called "format" at the bottom of window!) and menu items greyed out almost randomly. Pity, instead of being a time saver, you end up spending more time trying to get around this program. The idea to use a PDF as a background is nice however.

Well I also enjoy it but it has a few bugs and moreover the developper didn't upgrade it since more than a year. He spent more time with MenuCalendarClock... probably more profitable! Now, with Tiger, there are even more bugs (that's I insert an address and it prints with another). I'm looking forward to see an update coming out.

This is a wonderful app with just enough gadgits to be convenient. Both letter & envelope format save together in a single document and are accessible via buttons at the bottom of the page; (much like a 2 page spreadsheet workbook.) You add form letter data fields by double clicking the name of the field in the inspector. Can't get any easier than that. I like how, if your form letter data fields request address book entry data that doesn't exist, the recipient's listing will be red. Double clicking on the listing will open an address book window that shows the missing data field in red. Perfect! I did encounter some buggy behavior on my G3/OS X.3.7. It may have been my inexperience with this new program, but I couldn't edit a data field and save/replace the stationary. And once, in layout mode, the inspector was empty, (after I had placed the cursor inside the text field) so I couldn't add any data fields. Never the less, the design is exactly what you need in a letter writing program without all the cumbersome bells and whistles. Double spacing and kerning are in a dropdown menu at the top of the doc window.

I have been using LetterWorks exclusively for 6 months. I use it instead of TextEdit to open txt, rtf, and doc files, and to convert pdf files. It is very stable. I think early problems with the layout mode are now fixed. It is not intuitive, but it works, it is cheap, and it doesn't require 100mb. The name is now LetterStar, although (thank heaven) it has little in common with WordStar. Once set up and tinkered with, it provides good service and a great bargain.
