I suppose it never occurred to you to contact Alcatel regarding your issue?

They would know how to get the CD, or perhaps email you the driver software.

Thank you King Williams
I was tearing my hair out. Repeated kernel crashes, failure to connect etc. But after following the Kings advice problems solved.

This driver is the most stable yet if you follow Mr Williams advice.

Alopecia stressitus cured.

Thank you Dr CT

Listen to Bamstel, who is very wise and talks a lot of sense. I threw away all diagnostics stuff and now the modem works first time, every time, with 10.2.3 without having to restart etc. Thank you Bamstel.

Okay, I feel like a bit of a dunce, but the latest release allows you to select the Alcatel modem in the modems tab, so you gotta move from Null Modem 115200 or whatever to Alcatel Modem and Whack, it's go time.

If you don't there's some kind of Crossed Connection error...

This version is now running well in Jaguar, after removing the older driver (Alcatel Diagnostics) from the Applications folder and pulling the Alias from the dock.

Also, remove Alcatel Diagnostics from Log In Items in System Preferences.

So far, I have no Kernel Panics and can start/restart with no problem. I have yet to see if I cause a panic if the modem gets pulled from the USB port, but I'll probably knock it out by mistake sooner or later...

Well kids...as of a few days ago version 2.0.1 has been released and its just as sucky as the previous 1.6 & 2.0. Constant crashing when my Powerbook G4 1Ghz running Jaguar 10.2.3 goes to sleep with the modem plugged in. I have to restart the system if I even want to TRY and get a connection, otherwise it ignores me. What is it with this company? There are enough complaints about it on all the forums around the web that I'm beginning to think that No-one has got it to work reliably, in Jaguar 10.2.3. I paid my money and continue to pay Freeserve every month because it worked beautifully in OS9.2 Come on Speedtouch get it together soon!!!!!!

For those having trouble connecting this site may be useful

I got my USB modem from my ISP, Freeserve, who did not provide Mac OS X drivers at all, only OS 9.
As this v2.0 is an UPGRADER you may need to download the FULL v1.6 Mac OS X drivers first from
http://www.speedtouchprofiles.com/products.asp#USB
You then install this to upgrade.

For those who are trying deperately to get their Alcatel Speedtouch USB work under Jaguar - It works!!! I have tried and tried and tried. The steps are:

1) Install the previous driver for the Alcatel SpeedTouch USB that works with Mac OS X (I think version 1.3)

2) Install the new driver, version 2 and DON'T uninstall version 1.3. Just install version 2 over 1.3.

3) Throw all Alcatel Diagnostics stuff in you program folder away. This is what causes all the problems!!! In the dock is also an Alcatel diagnostics icon, throw that away as well.

4)In Network, select Alcatel Speedtouch USB and define the settings (PPP, only tick the Header compression - leave rest blank) and define your account settings.

5) Start your Mac again - wait till both leds on the Speedtouch are green and don't blink anymore. Open your internet connection....ET VOILA!!!!
