I purchased this a few months back after having major trouble with Sophos and and a few other mac antivirus programs finding viruses and not doing anything about them!
Intego is constantly crashing my entire 2007 iMac with Mavericks. Even though I turn off the the damn auto scan Intego antivirus Ignores Its own commands and continues to automatically scan my mac once a month and when it does the whole system crashes! This App is an Abysmal failure!
I can't believe I paid for this CRAP!

Take VirusBarrier X6 with its vast utility and features beyond the nearly pointless virus scanning and you have a great product.

Give VirusBarrier a frontal lobotomy and you have VirusBarrier 2013 / 10.7.8

MacUpdate, better fix the price: the $179,99 is for the business-edition with a license for 5 Macs. The regular Mac Internet Security 2013 'Home' edition (consisting of VirusBarrier and Netbarrier) costs $40 euro with one year of protection.

$134.99 for antivirus protection, and that’s the sale price (regular price: $179.99!) ??

VirusBarrier is vastly overpriced. $60 — including free virus definitions updates and same-version updates forever — would be more reasonable. But even at that price, I’d still stick with ClamXav, which is FREE and just as effective but without all the complications of Intego products.

NOTE: I’ve been forced to use this by different employers for years and I used to use it at home, so I’m not just a hit-and-run Intego-basher. Also, my 2-star rating is based mostly on VB’s ridiculous price and complexity.

@Intego:
Will there be an update of VB6 that will work with maverick?

Any news on a "advanced" version of 10.7?

Thanks

I have been quite happy with the Intego Netbarrier and VirusBarrier offerings for quite some time.
Yes, I realize that the value of anti-virus is debatable on a Mac, yet I still choose to pay for protection, my choice.

But what I really, really don't understand is why this 2013 version of VirusBarrier has such a ridiculous icon for a professional app. The whole interface was overhauled to tighten it to a pro style, and then this icon????

I have finished my 2-year subscription with VirusBarrier today, and the app ceased from running altogether, locking me out from the web using Safari (I am using Firefox as I write this).

If I recall correctly, in my previous subscription VB stopped updating the virus definitions - which I thought was fair enough - but now, the application is greyed-out and totally disabled, all configurations are deactivated, and worse, it interferes with my web surfing, holding me hostage until I renew my subscription.

I was going to upgrade at my convenience, but, I have just decided I will not. I realised its value is much less than I thought at first. The application should at least have allowed access to the web with the previous settings.

Very poor user experience, Intego!

I don't know if this is related, but one of my email accounts was also disabled at the same time I lost Safari access to the web.

It may be that I clicked on the wrong button on a warning dialogue in my mail browser, but with VB being now inaccessible I cannot find what caused it, or correct it. I wonder whether trashing VirusBarrier will fix the problem or make it worse.

Any help is appreciated.

All things are now back to normal. Safari web access is back, as well as my lost email account. The culprit was VirusBarrier, as I suspected.

I write this for those who might have the same problem:

If, after VB expires, you click on a VB threat warning dialogue by mistake, you permanently loose access to the link using that URL (in my case, about 90% of all my links, including MacUpdate). The problem is that although VB is no longer functional or accessible, you can still disable URLs that may be perceived as threats, but you have no way to reverse this action. This virtually turns VirusBarrier - as already mentioned on the web - into malware.

The way I returned to normality was to find the old installer, run it again, and from there to uninstall the application. Then, I rebooted. All seems to work fine now.

@raymondb,

It seems all you have is praise and five stars for Intego products, and nary a comment for anything else.

What are they paying sock puppets these days, and where can I sign up?

And $126 for AV software? Puh-leeze!

I've been using VirusBarrier X6 for a while now and am generally happy with it (a good way to renew is to find a retail copy on sale cheap, buy it, and use the serial number to renew your subscription). The upgrade to 2013 Internet Security was not very clear in that Intego is not posting what features got removed or modified in the new version. Here is what I found in using both X6 and 2013 versions, and discussions with the (helpful and responsive) Intego tech support.

While Intego has simplified the user experience, they also removed some functionality, which may or may not be important (this list may not be everything but it is what I was interested in)

The new suite does log activity but does not allow the user to save logs
Trojan Horse protection moved from X6 firewall to 2013 VirusBarrier
Unclear if X6 Anti-vandal functions are still in 2013 NetBarrier
2013 NetBarrier does not have web threat protection feature (was in VirusBarrier X6)
Whois and traceout removed (redundant to Mac OS X Network Utility)

Good evening, im wondering if anyone can help me here. fairly new to mac.

I installed virusbarrier and decided to delete it right afterwards, because it created a kernel panic and everything froze. I need my computer to stay on and active.

Deleted virusbarrier and the traffic monitor but the shortcut on the upper menu remains (right next to the volume and the wi-fi.) Any idea on how to remove this?

Ran Virus Barrier 5 and net Barrier successfully for over a year. Installed the new Virus Barrier 6 and things seem to work as usual. For the last week so my computer reports kernel panics due to Virus barrier 6. After I have now removed the software completely and the system is stable again. Intego please fix it asap.

There's a behavioral analysis tool that VirusBarrier X6 has that can cause kernel panics. It's a check box under, the email tab (I think).

Ok, so since i installed virus barrier, the program has been a resource hog. I mean at times it is taking up to 600 MB, but typically when i'm having issues it's around 370MB. That is a crazy amount of memory!

So that is not the issue. When i'm working in pretty much all the applications i use daily. (word, excel, powerpoint, photoshop, inDesign etc) All of a sudden i'll get the spinning beach ball and program become non responsive.

I force quit virusbarrier and problem solved. (at least for 5-10 minutes, then it does exactly the same thing.

I've added indesign, photoshop etc to the trusted list not to scan, but it doesnt help. (I will not add microsoft crap because that's the reason i have the antivirus software. Adding it to the trusted list defeats the purpose)

So I contact intego several times. The send new update, doesn't work. Send a program to run a report when it happens and I've sent them like 6 reports and have not heard back from them... I'm pisssed with this software.

It is just so buggy, that I don't know how they can let it out of their testing?

So since i have to have something that is always running to stop things, this seems to do the job, just acts like malware constantly freezing programs and buggy.

I spoke to tech support earlier asking about transferring my Virus/NetBarrier X5 subscription to the new one. They said if I purchase the software then forward the serial numbers of all 3 products they will transfer the remainder to the new account. Fingers crossed they are good on their word.
