File RoundUp X

2.6.3
26 December 2009

Catalog and search files quickly.

Overview

File RoundUp combines the fastest cataloger and the most powerful search function available, and batch file capabilities to provide the ultimate file utility. File RoundUp is over twice as fast as CDFinder and DiskTracker on Jaquar and Panther, and even faster than that on OS 9. Besides being the fastest, File RoundUp also offers many capabilities not available elsewhere, including:

  • Update function (shows changes since last scan)
  • picks up OS X comments
  • more powerful search capabilities
  • file contents comparison
  • "flat" file list as well as hierarchical
  • batch rename
  • Multi-media display in general purpose catalog utility
  • ability to save complex searches in Search Sets and distribute to other users

Many other functions are brought together in File RoundUp Pro that otherwise require numerous individual utilities. Combined with File RoundUp's powerful tools for finding and selecting files from throughout your storage media, this gives you far greater power than the individual utilities provide.

Not exactly ugly (see DiskLister and DiskCatalog if you REALLY want ugly) but far too cluttered. Maybe it's just that the developer has created something that does more than I want: a utility that will catalogue all the files on my CDs/DVDs and that, once I have inserted the appropriate disc, I can open the file I've been looking for just by clicking it, or I can drag it to the desktop--or anywhere else I might want it. I like the simplicity of CDFinder (well, up to version 4.7 anyway; I can't try version 5.0 because I'm still using Panther). I just don't like that price tag of US$39!

You guys GOTTA start making these "utilities" affordable. Why do you think software piracy is so prevelent?

Thanks for the suggestion, but if you'll give File RoundUp a look, you'll realize it's more in the category of PhotoShop than the typical "utility". Most people who've really used it consider it to be a bargain! I have considered a stripped down version for less though.

I do agree with "going crazy" that this type of software is often too expensive. CDFinder is the worst in this respect.
