Traditionally, a utility called Fortune appears on most UNIX distributions. For unknown reasons, Apple has chosen not to include this program in OS X.

Cocoa Fortune is two things: 1) An OS X port of fortune, and 2) A Cocoa GUI wrapper for the command line application.

Cocoa Fortune is freeware, but donations are appreciated. People who have donated some money, and others as well, may email the developer to receive the full source code, both for the GUI wrapper and the CLI application.

  • Click-through (in 10.2 or later only)
  • Dock menu support (in 10.1 or later only)
  • Contact information changes and minor compatibility updates
