Alphatk is a text editor. It's most useful for programmers, those writing a lot of TeX or LaTeX documents, and for editing of HTML source files. It has very rich features to aid in writing and editing files of those document types. The programming languages most strongly supported are C, C++, Java, Tcl, Perl, Matlab, in addition to LaTeX and CSS/HTML. Most other common languages (around 50!) are also supported, although perhaps not with quite such a rich feature set. As well as being useful for creating and editing such documents, Alphatk provides a host of facilities for communicating with
What's New
Version 8.3.3 fixes a very large number of problems. In particular, command-line support is now much improved, and some lost-focus bugs on Mac OS X have been fixed (although some still remain). Also substantial improvements have been made to the TeX interactions, and many other modes. XHTML support is now included.
Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.2 or later, Tcl/Tk 8.4.

With a little polish, this could be THE killer Mac editor. It has all the features, plus it's cross-platform (it would be nice to have a cross platform editor that conformed to Mac UI conventions on other platforms, instead of the reverse.) Unfortunately, the same was true of Alpha Classic, for about 10 years, so I'm not holding my breath.

does it still throw up hundreds of app-modal dialog boxes complaining that it's trying to do unsupported things to itself?

if you read what this product is for smart guy, you'd see it's a TEX/LATEX EDITOR, not a GENERAL TEXT EDITOR like BBEdit.

As a matter of fact it *IS* a general text editor. I know because (unlike you) I have used it.

Better to keep you mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open and remove all doubt.

Still have some bug, but i beleive in that editor, it's so powerfull. The best to edit TeX. A lot of features and the completion is very usefull. I wait to have a solid version without bugs like the 7.4x on Classic !
