TeX or LaTeX text editor.

Overview

Alphatk is a text editor. It's most useful for programmers, those writing a lot of TeX or LaTeX documents, and for editing of HTML source files. It has very rich features to aid in writing and editing files of those document types. The programming languages most strongly supported are C, C++, Java, Tcl, Perl, Matlab, in addition to LaTeX and CSS/HTML. Most other common languages (around 50!) are also supported, although perhaps not with quite such a rich feature set. As well as being useful for creating and editing such documents, Alphatk provides a host of facilities for communicating with compilers, diff, patch, version control systems, etc.

What's new in Alphatk

Version 8.3.3 fixes a very large number of problems. In particular, command-line support is now much improved, and some lost-focus bugs on Mac OS X have been fixed (although some still remain). Also substantial improvements have been made to the TeX interactions, and many other modes. XHTML support is now included.

Still have some bug, but i beleive in that editor, it's so powerfull. The best to edit TeX. A lot of features and the completion is very usefull. I wait to have a solid version without bugs like the 7.4x on Classic !

This is a fantastic editor for Mac OS or for anyone who needs to edit entire groups of files. I had been hard coding the IP addresses into a suite of web pages I author for my church. Of course every time my ISP changed my static IP address to a new one, I'd have to edit all of the pages individually and do a separate search and replace function. Now I have several hundred sermons online, all of the pages that point to the sermons and the .m3u audio index files that each point to a separate unique audio file, and each of these files had the hardcoded static IP address for my cable modem embedded in the file. Thousands of files, right! Then I found out about DYNDNS.org and listed my cable modem's IP address with them at my dyndns address. That meant I needed to replace the IP addresses with the new URL for the church website, which again meant doing search and replace operations on thousands of files. A real headache right?! Enter Alphatk. Alphatk has a feature I've never seen before even on Winblows Word XP! Alphatk lets you find and run a global search and replace for a string through an entire filesystem hierarchy like a folder or an entire hard disk and replace things like "24.35.108.150" with "cornerstone.dnsalias.org" and it instantly opens each file in the hierarchy and replaces every instance of the dotted IP with the URL! In about 13 seconds, Alphatk did this replacement for me in over 2000 files!!!! It would have taken me about 15 or 16 hours to do this manually!!! Well worth downloading and purchasing!

With a little polish, this could be THE killer Mac editor. It has all the features, plus it's cross-platform (it would be nice to have a cross platform editor that conformed to Mac UI conventions on other platforms, instead of the reverse.) Unfortunately, the same was true of Alpha Classic, for about 10 years, so I'm not holding my breath.

does it still throw up hundreds of app-modal dialog boxes complaining that it's trying to do unsupported things to itself?

if you read what this product is for smart guy, you'd see it's a TEX/LATEX EDITOR, not a GENERAL TEXT EDITOR like BBEdit.

As a matter of fact it *IS* a general text editor. I know because (unlike you) I have used it. Better to keep you mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open and remove all doubt.
