Increasingly ridiculous performance issues on the desktop app. I was caught in an endless update refresh, which is typical: always quit and restart the app or the updates won't be current. And now I can't log in to the app, although the password is accepted online. $20 every 6 months for this kind of unreliable and frustrating performace is simply not acceptable. After many years, time to cancel before the next renewal.

Even before we got the problem with big sur, I had issues with a lot of crashes and that it couldn't connect to the servers. But when it works, it works.

When will MacUpdate be fixed for Big Sur? It has been weeks now and still not even a word as to the schedule.

Mac Big Sur has been out for weeks and the industry has known it was coming for months. Why isn't there an update to make Macupdate compatible with Big Sur?????

Big Sur was in beta for at least 4 months before release and MacUpdate is still broken. As a long-time user of MacUpdate, I hope to see an update sooner than later. At least the website is still useful for finding updates.

What a shame - since Big Sur release it's not working anymore and crashes upon start. The software is useless since then. Still no statement, no update, no refund from macupdate. This is a fail - a website which takes care to deliver you always available updates and newest version and still self fall asleep on big sur. No-Go. Sorry.

What is your release schedule for a macOS 11 compatible version? The actual version dates from 2018.

Zero stars!! MacUpdate has been mediocre at best for the past 2 years. Too many apps get updated via MacUpdate and then fail or crash. BUT NOW no Big Sur support and no response from Tech Support as to when it will be supported. I'm out.

The entire Mac world has known about Big Sur for months. Now that Big Sur has been out for a few weeks MacUpdate Desktop still does not have an update. You have taken the last money from me unless you can compensate MacUpdate users for your failure to have a timely update.

I am giving zero stars for this piece of crap software. 3 weeks into the update and you still don’t have a working version. You’ve emailed a handful of people about refunds and whatever. You have not offered the rest of us anything. And from what someone posted about your email response, you offered them a 3 month subscription, with the caveat that the update won’t be out until 2-3 months from now. At this point I am seriously considering class-action lawsuit for theft of services.....

Pathetic. I paid money for this? Sorry - too slow, too bad. There is another program called Macupdater that is more efficient. Sad - I've been a member for a long time, and just paid a renewal. Feels like I have had my money "stolen".

I recently renewed my subscription. I've been on Big Sur for a couple of weeks now, and have not had access to the program I paid for, because it's STILL incompatible with this OS release. How long does it take to upgrade an app to be compatible? Not this long, judging by most of the apps that I run on my Mac. Get your act together, MacUpdate!

Been a paying customer for years, and used this app regularly. But, this app is now totally useless after updating to Big Sur. The developer keeps making excuses, but has yet to fix the problem. And has no problem keeping our money for subscribing.

This should be less than a star, but I guess that's not an option. The software that's supposed to keep us up to date is STILL not up to date to run Big Sur. Given the flakey performance of this tool and utter failure to keep up, I won't be renewing. Like many here, it seems annoying to pay subscription fees to software we can't even use. Clean My Mac seems to have added software updates and has done an amazing job keeping current with Apple. It costs more, but does a lot more for your money. I'm surprised this review was actually solicited by MacUpdate, because they don't seem to be reading the negative reviews already posted.

The potential for this app is enormous. There are whole periods when it seems to work - and work well. Then comes the inevitable "timed out" message time and time again. A quit and run resolves this BUT this has been going on for years and across different version numbers implying it has either not been addressed by developers or continues to be unresolved- or ignored as the app "mostly works". Furthermore, every time there is an OS update, Macupdate is woefully behind the game. The last two years have seen very public beta periods giving the developers plenty of time to get ready. The opportunity is there. It should be seized. With a concerted effort, more rigour in QA and testing and a commitment to stay ahead of the game, this app would be an essential app.

I've been trying Macupdater for a week now, and although it's not as pretty as MacUpdate Desktop, it has found more apps than MUD ever did that were out of date. It's free if you manually update your apps, but I may pay them the one time purchase of 9.99$/€ just to support them. I won't be renewing my subscription here.

Don't be charging me every 6 months or so if you can't keep it updated in a timely manner. Funny how your app is the only one that isn't "updated".

This pattern of MacUpdate Desktop being broken by one release of macOS after another has got to stop.  I'm paying to MacUpdate to keep my apps current and now, when app updates for Big Sur are critical, their app crashes on startup.
Apple released developer betas of Big Sur available starting on June 22 so that companies like MacUpdate could get their applications ready. What in the Hades have MacUpdate's developers been doing for the last five fracking months? I am probably going to cancel my subscription. There's no sense in paying for annual subscriptions and then doing all the work myself during the busiest times for app updates.

The app was never great, polished, or rapidly updated... but at this point, it's gone well beyond embarrassing. Subscription Software designed to keep software up-to-date that isn't kept up to date? It's practically fraud.

Big Sur has been in a relatively stable beta cycle for months prior to release - surely you could have got MacUpdate Desktop ready for it during that time? Not good.

Reposting my review from November 16th to see if the MacUpdate Team replies a 10-year long subscriber; As a longtime subscriber, I was surprised that MacUpdate Desktop was not ready for Big Sur and does not even open, just crashes. I urge the MacUpdate developers to fix this issue. MacUpdate should also extend all existing subscriptions with the amount of downtime we are experiencing.

On Monday, November 23 at approximately 4:26 PM, PST, MacUpdate deleted my review about 5 minutes after I had posted it. Of course, I anticipated such underhanded tactics, so I took screen captures and web archives for evidence. Bad move, Yaroslav and Vitalii. Let's see if they delete it again, now that they know perfectly well that their censoring is being monitored. Here's my review that they deleted: -------------------- "As if all of the problems with functionality and unrecognized applications weren't disappointing enough . . . . It's unconscionable that a new version of MacUpdate Desktop was not released well *BEFORE* Big Sur was released. MacUpdate Desktop is PAID software. More critically, it's time-based, subscription software! You can't charge us monthly/quarterly/bi-yearly/yearly for non-functioning software without providing compensation. We all expect monetary compensation and/or free months. Rest assured, MacUpdate execs, that many pertinent people are watching how you handle this disaster and whether or not you do right by your countless, wronged customers who paid you in advance."

It gets worse all the time. I have spent an hour reinstalling, Option-Cmd restarts, manual update searches. Nothing. I only get "open MacUpdate" from my update list. I give up. It's a perfect idea, but it doesn't work.

With the update to Big Sur (an giving apps an extra few days to catch-up) MacUpdate Desktop is one of the very few apps that haven't been updated and rare few that doesn't work at all (won't open). Ironically this is one of the apps I rely on with every Mac OS update as it makes that process relatively easy. Now I'm a bit stuck and paying for the service when it doesn't work when I depend on it most.

Are used this app for years and really like it when it’s working. When I installed Big Sur it no longer works as you have replied that you have an update yet. Two things I have to say first I spent hours trying to login and get this thing to run because you did not communicate to me in advance that you have not updated yet,, number two I hope my membership is extended for the period of time I am unable to use your program that I have paid for. It’s not like you didn’t know that Big Sir was coming.

i have been a true follower, and active purchaser and subscriber, you took my money and now for the last 6 months i have not be able to update your program i cannot load you program, not just with MAC new oS but before, i thought it was me, and i know the basics and i could not get a learned computer programer to load the program i have rebooted, cleaned off my old OS and reloaded everything, wasting my time trying to use something that started of brilliant this is not good business, no communication unless we complain, no timeline of fixing the problem, as long as the money comes in, if your software company is all about just making money then your a disgrace

1) not ready for big sur? ... no excuse 2) no preference setting to disable the daemon/menu bar item? I don't need or want it 3) downloads and installs updates *THAT ARE NOT LISTED ON THE RELEVANT APPS WEBSITE* --- very sketchy ... do not ever use the updater to download, only use it to flag items you may want to d/l from the developer
