Increasingly ridiculous performance issues on the desktop app. I was caught in an endless update refresh, which is typical: always quit and restart the app or the updates won't be current. And now I can't log in to the app, although the password is accepted online. $20 every 6 months for this kind of unreliable and frustrating performace is simply not acceptable. After many years, time to cancel before the next renewal.

Over the last few weeks, various comments on products distributed by Clario have been purely and simply deleted by MacUpdate's admins (Vicky from Clario), under the (spurious?) pretext that they would come from the same person and that they would be too critical of Clario. I think it's useful for the community attached to MacUpdate's historical services to be aware of this new biased management of the site, which reminds us of the darkest hours of the MacKeeper application, of which Clario is now the distributor, claiming to have learned from the past about MacKeeper's past mistakes, but from which they actually take over all the bad marketing practices: misleading evaluations, misleading ads, invented rewards, etc. Reading the following link sheds an interesting light on the collusion of interests and direct links between MacKeeper, Zeobit, Kromtech and Clario: https://www.macserialjunkie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=118032&p=1007251&hilit=Viacheslav#p1007251 >>> Strange things surrounding Clario, the new owner of MacKeeper. To understand what's happening here, you have to look into the past. The persons behind MacKeeper were Viacheslav ("Slava") Kolomeichuk and Iurii (sometimes Yuriy) Dvoinos, two Ukrainians who knew each other from their time at a university in Kiev. There were some first steps with a long defunct company Kolo Global, all of that before their highly successful scumbag phase. Then they founded the US-registered company Zeobit LLC with its infamous software, among them version 1 of MacKeeper, which after the upgrade to v2 became a PUP/PUA par excellence: scareware, fake anti-malware, and a vector for a blitzkrieg of ads by shady players like Adcash, Zeropark, Exoclick et al. They even used a fake clamXav website to distribute their software. When legal pressure was mounting in the US, Zeobit's MacKeeper was bought by Kromtech, formerly a German security company (with security problems of its own, by the way), but then apparently rebooted as a letterbox company (Kromtech Alliance Corp.), managed by the ZEO Alliance, a Caribbean shell corporation, run by, you guessed it, the Ukranians. Many of the Zeobit guys would continue on to Kromtech or the ZEO Alliance, and many of the ZEO Alliance guys would eventually continue on to Clario. Before the Ukrainians swooped in, Clario was "Lumis Technology Ltd.", based out of a home in Reading. Like Kromtech, this company was rebooted as Clario Tech Ltd., with a newly registered address belonging to a shared office space building in central London. The allegedly 600 Clario employees (and up to 900 ad-hoc freelancers) are still all based in the Ukraine, of course. Not sure what role Clario's CEO, CFO et al. are playing in this scheme, but one of the silent founders in the background is Iurii Dvoinos, and the ultimate beneficial owner is Viacheslav Kolomeichuk, the same guys that initially created Zeobit and MacKeeper. So they've been buying their own property, twice already, the first time to avoid litigation, the second time apparently to sell this rebranding to the public, make it look legit, with CEO Alun Baker shilling in the foreground for the likes of Howard Oakley, telling fairytales about AppEsteem. The two Ukrainians, by the way, aren't exclusively Ukrainians anymore. They invested a couple of millions in Cyprus, and thereby bought themselves Cypriote (i.e. European Union) citizenship. So if they mess up in the UK, they are out of judicial reach in the EU. If they mess up in the EU, they are out of judicial reach in the UK. If they mess up in both jurisdictions they're out of reach, because they're still Ukranians… and if they mess up in all three jurisdictions, they are still out of reach, because both of their home addresses are actually in the United Arab Emirates. To quote wise old Ben: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious. But the best is yet to come! Can you guess what other property (besides MacKeeper) they have acquired? The MacUpdate website! Yeah, the MacUpdate LLC is not an autonomous entity anymore, if it still exists at all, and it's now owned and managed by the MacKeeper guys, hiding behind Clario. Head of "business development" at MacUpdate is now Alexander Korolev, another Ukrainian, who (I have to assume) has similar ties to the whole ZEO scheme. At any rate, at least one of the Ukranians at MacUpdate since 2019 is former Kromtech/ZEO. And they've announced a new "protection" scheme (racket?), so users are safe from any "threats" by software they download via MacUpdate even before installation. It was supposed to be rolled out in August 2020, but I haven't seen anything yet. The fact that the MacUpdate Desktop software hasn't been updated for a long time, might play into this… maybe they're planning a complete revamp. So I'm 100% certain now: stay far away from MacKeeper, stay away from Clario, be vigilant regarding MacUpdate… and, instead of anything coming out of that "wretched hive", use CoreCode's MacUpdater… or my upcoming "reenvisioning" of the MUMenu application.

Used to be a great app, but not now. Hasn't been updated in a couple years. Won't even install on my new M1 notebook. Paying a subscription for nothing. If you are looking to purchase, I would AVOID.

Note to the developers: We all noted now that the MUD Version for Big Sur is delayed. I understand that Big Sur has more demands on security and the development of MUD became more difficult. I cannot speak for all - just my view: The biggest benefit for us using MUD was always to MONITOR outdated software. The alternative way of updating those directly with MUD was more of a nice to have. Why not releasing a version that at least monitors updates and lists them, so the updates then can be done over the normal routes the individual software provides? I am sure anyone can agree that a scaled down version would be much better than none. :)

Extremely frustrating that we're now into February 2021 and there's still no update for MacUpdate Desktop for Big Sur. Definitely won't be renewing in two months, and I'd like a refund for the two and a half months (so far) that I haven't been able to use the app at all.

I just paid for update and it does not work on Big Sur. Why would you take my money and send me a file that don't work? I would appreciate a refund and when you have a program that works you can let me know and I'll decide if I will purchase or not.

You just emailed me to renew my membership for this app, but it doesn't work on Big Sur, yet so I can't use it. What a cheek. You should be emailing me a refund for the time I have had the app, but you have not been able to provide a service for. Apple says they have given software developers more than enough time to prepare for Big Sur release, so it sounds like you just were not organised. You won't be getting any more of my money; you are not fit for purpose.

I don't think MacUpdate is a existing company anymore. It is based on subscriptions and in this way collects your money monthly without having to do anything. Even paying users are not provided with the correct update. Shame...

The application is good when it works, but it is buggy when verifying updates, and it is now going on four months with no client compatible with Big Sur. It is not worth 40$ a year with these issues. I've had to ask for extensions on my subscription twice due to non-compatible clients. It is clear the site doesn't care much about the software and it is a cash grab.

I agree with all the other angry customers. Been a client for years, but paying a yearly subscription for an app that doesn't work with Big Sur is unacceptable by any standard. Are you planning on extending the subscription for all these months in which you haven't been delivering the service we've been (dutifully) charged?? Also, how come there isn't an option to stop automatic renewal of said subscription? Very disappointing...

MacUpdate Desktop has been my go-to for updates over the last few years, and now with Big-Sur has just stopped working. There's been no email communication about the issue, no offer to freeze subscriptions until the problems are solved, and no way to join a BETA program as the software crashes immediately on load. This is a very poor customer experience, and in a world where experience is King, I know that my money will be going elsewhere when my subscription renews. If there's no update, fix or stable BETA by the end of January then my subscription gets cancelled, and I'll be moving to MacUpdater which works perfectly on Big Sur.

I'm a software quality director. The fact that MacUpdate Desktop doesn't work with Big Sur at this point is beyond ridiculous. Not only did they have the ENTIRE Beta period to work through the issues, they've had releases 11.0, 11.01, and 11.1 to resolve them. Apple is now beta testing release 11.2. What the hell, MacUpdate?? Why can't you get your act together. If this is a developer deficiency, resolve it. Get new developers. If this is a testing issue, then get new developers and/ or new testers. But, GET. THE. RELEASE. OUT. You're a SERVICE, not an app. I'm paying you for access I don't have.

After having used MacUpdate Desktop for nearly 10 years, I am deeply disappointed about the extremely poor response and customer service in the light of the current, continuing total incompatibility issues the app has with macOS Big Sur. I've renewed my MacUpdate Desktop subscription in November 2020 and shortly after upgraded to macOS Big Sur. Same as many users here, since that upgrade the app has been rendered completely useless. Apart from the fact that I wonder, why an Update-App is not updated itself for two entire years, I would have expected the developers to offer a complete refund to those customers who because of having upgraded to macOS Big Sur cannot use the app anymore. Such as it is, it smells like no effort has been put into the development of the app for two years and now the developer takes the money from clients who cannot use the app any longer. Very disappointing!

I have always liked this app -- until, of course, I updated in November 2020 to Big Sur. I get it that you got caught somewhat behind because Apple wanted to get Big Sur out quickly. I DON'T GET IT THAT IT IS TAKING SO LONG. I haven't had use of MacUpdate Desktop since November 13 and it's now January 2021 -- that's more than two months of opening the app to check and receiving gibberish. Unless the Big Sur-compatible update happens soon, I need to look around for another product. If it does happen within tolerance of my timeframe, I'm going to want at least two months -- and maybe a third month as an apology -- free when my subscription renews.

This software is STILL not compatible with Mac OS Big Sur, which was announced in June and formally released in November. There should have been adequate time for the developers to make this software compatible, yet there is no word on when this will happen. I question this developer's commitment to this product. I notice that there is no delay in collecting the subscription fees, however.

I have been a subscriber for over 5 years, and I wish I could find a way to get my money back.

Between the nebulous amount that you owe every year, (Is it billed every 6 months, or yearly, who knows?) to the fact that it pulls random version numbers out of thin air that you can never seem to get rid of without having to ignore the app outright there are problems everywhere. Now with the push to Big Sur and M1 causing crashes on launch rendering MacUpdate moot in the process, I haven’t even been able to use this program for the last 3 months and they want me to pay for a re-up and a promise of compatibility “sometime in the future” No way. Also, let's not forget the random score that it gives you with no context as to what it means or how it's calculated; FACT: if a program gives you a non-standard score it's marketing B.S. pure and simple. There are a lot of ideas here that simply go nowhere, recommended apps that aren’t based on what I use, the persistent menu icon that works just like the regular app, just smaller, having to go to preferences to enable the apps you really want to monitor. I liked this app when Internet speeds were slow and I needed the time to update everything, but now most apps do this kind of maintenance on their own better, and if they don’t there are better apps that this job out there.

 SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

Big Sur was released on Nov 12, 2020. It has been 2 months and there still is no functioning version of MUD for the latest MacOS. EVERY other app I use, dozens and dozens, has been updated to work on Big Sur. Not only that, some have been updated to work on Apple's new M1 chip based Macs. The fact that MUD still doesn't work on Big Sur is appalling and offense to paid customers. You should be issuing refunds to EVERY paid customer.
