Unique utility to control iTunes.

One of the first utilities I install on any Mac. A must have for me. There is one small caveat I had when upgrading to Snow Leopard. Whenever I invoke X-Tunes without iTunes being previously launched, X-Tunes now pops up its interface and keeps it on the screen even after iTunes has launched and even though I let go of the keys immediately after I invoked them, and only hides the interface until I invoke the command for it again. Are any other users receiving a similar situation?

Haven't tried it on OS X 10.7 or later, yet. But it is the best, period. Works flawlessly on my older MBP running OS X 10.6.8. I'll install it on my new MBP (OS X 10.7.1) and see what happens. I'll report back.

Actually, it appears the x-tunes daemon DOES load and run on an Intel Mac. However, the preference pane cannot be loaded. So if you want to install x-tunes on an Intel Mac, just drop the preference pane into your ~/Library/PreferencePanes folder, then if you don't already have a preference file set up that you can copy, copy the below to a text editor and save it to: ~/Library/Preferences/X-Tunes Preferences.plist You'll have to live with my preferences, I suppose, but it's better than nothing. Here's the text of the preference list: enabled fadeDelay 1.0499999523162842 keyCharacter keyCode 49 keyModifiers 768 opacity 0.27112668752670288 version 256

Ack! I forgot to HTML-proof the plist. Let's try this again. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>enabled</key> <true/> <key>fadeDelay</key> <real>1.0499999523162842</real> <key>keyCharacter</key> <string> </string> <key>keyCode</key> <integer>49</integer> <key>keyModifiers</key> <integer>768</integer> <key>opacity</key> <real>0.27112668752670288</real> <key>version</key> <integer>256</integer> </dict> </plist>

Well, now it no longer works. I don't know how it ever did, but I was in heaven for a few weeks, and now I can't get x-tunes to work on my Intel Mac anymore. What a pity.

I always install this app on all of my computers. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work with my new Intel Mac.

The best iTunes remote i've ever found - lightweight, simple and works from the keyboard without disturbing your workflow. Perfect for those like me who listen to music when they work. Also, to my Joy, it DOES work with Tiger, at least on my machine in 10.4.1 . This is on the very short list of apps i install straight after putting a new system on a machine, in fact I'm so used to it that i try and use the key-combo to stop/play on other people's machines.

I've been using X-Tunes for quite some time, and I just updated to 1.2.6. Since I've updated, though, I can't drag the window around. Overall, this is the best remote for iTunes that I've found -- unintrusive, simple, effective. Great Stuff =] -mark

"This is a great utility, but when the floating window is active, the trackpad on my Powerbook G3 stops working. Os this maube a bug in the software?" This is your fault. You have your Keyboard set to "ignore Trackpad while typing". X-Tunes is a Hotkey (thus, "typing"). Both are incompatible. You have to turn that off. Yes, Album Artwork would be great.

I love this add on! Only problem is that when I bring it up on my Powerbook Pismo running 10.3.5 the mouse freezes. Kinda annoying. Doesn't happen on my desktop G4.

Go into the trackpad preferences pane. Uncheck "Ignore accidental trackpad input."

i have one suggestion for the developer. There needs to be an option for a delay before the controller even starts to fade away. And then if you press a button the delay fades away, so you don't have to keep holding the button while you are controlling the thing. Umm, i'm not sure what the developers e-mail is.

Sometimes takes a while to come up. Would be nice to have the play icon change to paused when pause is pressed. Yez, and a scrub bar would be super! Works great though and looks cool.

This is an amazing little way of controlling iTunes. The translucent popup window (much like the volume indicator) is very cool looking, and it's not only good-looking but effective. Adds one more little feature that will make your mac that much better

This is a wonderful way to control iTunes quickly without bringing it to the front. Big wow factor from non-Mac users when they see this elegant solution. Excellent visual integration with OS X (looks like the eject image)
