I am still using PageSender Fax Center 4.6 EVERY DAY on Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.4. I LOVE IT. It is still the best software for RECEIVING AND ORGANIZING a large number of faxes. I get sometimes hundreds of faxes a day.

It works well, reliably and stably with USRobotics USR5637 USB FaxModem.

I love the way it automatically saves the faxes as PDFs in a selected folder and how it can automatically forward the faxes via eMail to multiple email addresses. It can notify you by email if there is a problem. It notifies you of a new fax using Growl. And it can show the fax automatically as they come in in Preview. It can also optionally print the faxes automatically. This is a better feature set than any other fax software including that built into Mac OS X which is very rudimentary.

The print to fax and print to email modules no longer work. But I still use them to as virtual printers - such as printing from Windows on Parallels when connecting to some systems which don't print well to local printers. The print jobs I can then transfer to an actual printer for output. This is very handy since Adobe Acrobat's Print-to-PDF modules no longer work.

For Print-to-Fax or simply faxing printed documents, I recommend buying an Epson WorkForce All-in-One Fax-Copy-Printer such as the WF-3540. These least expensive of these is only $89. Mac OS X has built in drivers to print to fax to these fax machines.

For receiving and organizing and displaying faxes, there is simply NOTHING better than PageSender Fax Center.

It is sad that it is no longer being updated or sold. But for me, it is still going strong on Mac OS X 10.8.4 on the latest Macs. I would have to jury-rig macros to get the built-in fax software to work someone like PageSender. I am happy that it is still working stably, reliably, and efficiently in the latest version of Mac OS X.

Hopefully it will still work with Mac OS X 10.9 this summer. But I am hopeful it will work since it has been a well-written and well-behaved app so far with Mac OS X.

Note: you can download PageSender 4.6 from other sites after googling.

Note that eFax solutions do not work for me.

1. When receiving hundreds of faxes a day or month, eFax solutions simply are too expensive. With PageSender, receiving faxes is FREE.

2. eFax solutions are NOT private or secure. They are stored in a 3rd company's servers before they get to you.

Emailing scans of documents also has problems.

1. The problem of privacy and security is present if the sender or receiver is on an unsecure email account. You would have to use an encrypted email service like hushmail.com to insure your communication is private and secure - and force your clients to use that service too.

2. Emailed scans don't have the date and sender stamp as faxes do. This is important for legal purposes. A signed phone-faxed document is generally as legal as the original. For emails, this isn't as true. And you have to save and archive your email to a site where the email information cannot be modified in order to verify when and from whom it was received.

I haven't installed PageSender on 10.8.4. Instead, I started by installing it on 10.6 then upgraded Mac OS X around it. So currently, I am successfully running it on my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini running Mac OS X 10.8.4. It works great.

I suggest installing it on an earlier operating system such as 10.6 then upgrading the OS as I did over time, or the transferring the app and its supporting files to your current MacBook with OS X 10.8.4.

Page Sender 4.6 works fine from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Not supported for Lion & beyond. Discontinued, last version is 4.6 released in 2010. No longer available on developer's website. Zoom 3095 external USB modem works well (don't need to install any drivers).

Yes, unfortunately it is not supported. But it still works great for me (other than the printer drivers) for OS X 10.8.4

Crashes on launch under 10.7.3. Deleting the preferences files does not solve the problem. Console log is as follows:
PageSender Fax Center[9329]: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: TB Item Identifiers)'

'Used to be great but since it is lagging in updates with each OS X release the app ran into problems that needed to be " corrected" with reinstalls. Now, it does no longer sends faxes on a brand new iMac Intel i5 running 10.6.6 and brand new Zoom USB fax modem (both a week old). The support team hang in there for a while but I have not heard from them in a several days so I began to use the barebones OS X built in fax support. Since some components of the software were not rewritten from Power PC code when Lion comes without Rosetta that will be the end for PageSender.

This app is not for those who use a DSL line, even when it is coupled with a phone line, unless they want to go back to the 80s' and its helpless modem configuration

If you knew what a FAX is you wouldn't say that nonsense!! FAX is protocol used on normal old phone lines, it's uses the BAUD tones to make connections!! DSL is completely different technology!!!

Thank you Surfspirit to CONFIRM WHAT I WAS WARNING users about : one cannot use this app with a DSL connection.
Maybe the technological gap explains why Surfspirit needed more than a year to comment my 25 August 2010 WARNING to modern computer users.

Give me a break, this app is for FAX!!!, It's not to browse the internet, I think everyone knows that email is faster but try to send an email to a fax machine!! Gosh, don't you have a life? If you don't use FAX good for you, but there's lot's of people that still using FAX!! Your comment "unless they want to go back to the 80s' and its helpless modem configuration" is completely useless for a fax software!

Hi .. me again ..

I have an update on my comment about dialing .. sorry if I led any astray ..

I live in Canada. For local faxes I have set Smart Dialing on ... have entered my area code ..
and checked "dial area code for local calls" ....
Then when I want to send a local fax ... I enter my area code and the 7 digit number. This works for me .. I hope it works for others as well ..... my apologies for the previous misinfo .

I have owned this program for a number of years. It just keeps getting better and better. Works great on my Leopard Macbook. Beautiful interface with lots of info on your faxes.
One tip ... some of the dialing prefs are a little confusting ... Here is what works for me flawlessly. I live in Canada. Say I want to fax a local number. I set Smart Dialing on in the prefs .. and enter my area code. Then when I want to fax a local number i make sure I dial 1-local area code-then my 7 digit local number. Works like a charm!!!

Thank you Page sender for this wonderful program ....

I also forgot to mention ... it will send you an email that the fax has been received in addition to the dialogue box that shows it has been sent.

I have been a registered user from January 2003. One of the things that has always stood out with the company is their superb customer support before, during, and after a purchase or an upgrade.
I use Page Sender in my distance education courses in order to receive proctored exams back for grading. The software has been an indispensable tool in this respect.
Just a few minutes ago, I upgraded to v4.x. And, once again the customer support has been second to none.
When you must use fax software for work and truly appreciate timely response for help requests from the developer, I wholeheartedly recommend Page Sender.

Great for sending occasional faxes! Keeps a log, and uses Mac Address book. We send about 10 faxes a day via another Mac running PageSender with Printer Sharing on (and a fax phone line) to make a network fax server. It works, but gets jammed up several times a week. Sometimes requires a delete & remaking of the printer spooler (both ends), or Mac OS restart... Not consistent in that regard. Not great as a fax server.
Works great for individual, occasional use, even works great for occasional network use.
