MacMAME... MAME, which stands for Multi-Arcade Machine Emulator, is part of the MAME project, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of arcade videogames via emulation. MacMAME achieves this by running the original program code found in the arcade games. As such, it is much more than a reproduction, it is essentially that same game running via an emulated layer inside your Mac. It reads the ROMs that you can download from certain sites, and interprets the code into a working arcade game program that runs on your Mac.

I have been living under a rock for a while and my MAME set is only at 0.58… I haven't really been living under a rock, just been into other things. Anyway I am getting back into Emulators again and was wondering, What happened to MacMAME and why? Very sad that it appears to be dead.

I solved the joystick configuration issue by having an older version (0.77u2a) in the same directory as 0.103u2, configured my USB joystick in v77, quit and started v103. The settings carried over fine.

Try MAME OS X!

MAME OS X is a native OS X port of the popular MAME emulator. It is designed to take advantage of all the latest OS X technologies, like Core Video and Core Image. - Universal Binary!

Just wanted to add that I'm having the same Keybord/Joystick issues as Mr. Ash and Scatterbraine. I don't think this is a random issue as my same setup (Logitech RumblePad/USB Overdrive X) worked just fine with the last version of MacMAME I was using, which was 97 (yea, I hadnt upgraded in a while!).

I had the keyboard/joystick settings problems, but resoloved it by throwing out all of the existing settings files for games and then setting up the default settings. Then the changes stuck, as did further changes I made, and changes for specific games. So try tossing out all the settings files.

I've given lots of MAME-derivatives a try on multiple platforms but to me MacMAME ist by far the best. Keep up the good work!

OK, as suggested i've updated all my ROM's (about 120) and still half of them won't run on MacMame 0.103u2. I could live with that issue cause most not running ROM's aren't too good games.

But why, please tell my why isn't it possible to configure USB joypads anymore? Without this function most games are absolutly unplayable. Using the Mac keyboard isn't an option either or have you ever tried to play "Metal Slug" with a keyboard? It's impossible.

This is a great software for the Mac, thousands of old and less old games available, and games added every release. MacMAME is now updated to the pc version, so don't forget to update your roms (every MAME user must do it, it's not only a Mac issue), instead of complaining here that this soft is bad...

I can't seem to be able to use my XBOX controller with this, even though I've installed 'Gamepad Companion' and 'XBOX HID Driver'. What am I doing wrong?

If you are having trouble with a specific issue or ROMset there is a place to get help and/or report bugs. Go to MacMAME.org and follow the link to the message board. There are lots of people there (including the developer) who can help you, or at the very least verify a bug so it is fixed is subsequent releases.

Many of the ROMS changed with version .102. This is true for the Windows version, as well.

Be sure to make sure of your facts before you start blasting a developer who is doing this FOR FREE.

Maybe you should get your facts straight before you go shooting off your comments! There's nothing worse than someone who feels so presumptious as to tell another EXACTLY what's wrong with the others system when they don't have the slightest idea!

Read the review...same ROMS work on the PC. ROMS were reinstalled with latest versions. Some work, some don't. Missing files in error messages are in zips.

Honestly, discuss the facts not your ASSumptions is you're going to be deragatory!

Uh, no. Visit Mameworld and you will see that the changes were made to all versions. The MacMAME version is based on the code from MAME. Yes, it has some bugs of its own, but in most cases ROMS that no longer work is NOT one of them.

Hey, I have an idea! Why you don't ask for your money back?!?! Oh, that's right you didn't pay for it. Or... Maybe you could code something better.

Use it or don't. But don't complain about something that you are getting for free as if you are entitled to it.

One last option is to continue complaining and maybe he'll stop doing revisions. Hey, wouldn't that be GREAT!!?

Thomas, you're a moron! What do you think this section is for? Ass-kissing developers?!

The fact is I am commenting about the software and the fact that it doesn't work on my Mac with ROMS that do work on my PC version, regardless of what the developer has prepared. That is the purpose of the Reviews. I am more than willing to accept any critiques on that subject.

You instead use this service to belittle people who disagree with your "little fiefdom" or don't see software usage in the same manner you do. Why don't you take a lesson in civility since you don't code either?!

I try to play Metal Slug 1 and I click play then a box comes up that says "MacMAME has enocountered a problem." and lists the following items that can't be found:
ng-sfix.rom
neo-geo.rom
ng-sm1.rom
ng-lo.rom
Where do I get these?
