Synchronize! X Plus overview

Synchronize! X Plus is a personal file synchronization and backup utility. It has been re-engineered for OS X, taking advantage of the modern properties of the operating system, such as preemptive multitasking, and supporting the full capabilities of the file system, including 255-character Unicode file names and OS X file permissions. Files are copied at the maximum speed possible, using preemptive multitasking to full advantage.

Generally works, sometimes flaky. PROBLEMS: wants to "call home" every time it's opened (more on this below), way too expensive compared to alternatives, and then you have to re-purchase every two years to use -- even if the only update has been from 4.0 to 4.1! Recommend arRync (free!) or Folder Sync ($9) instead. Both do the job just as well. Or for a bit more, get Carbon Copy Cloner and be able to backup the entire disk.

This ain't shareware folks. It's a worthless duplicate of FREE software. $30?????? Are you kidding me? Is this an IQ test? Try not to get an F on this one folks. Search on "synchronize" here at MU and find yourself a little app called "Folder Backup." Everyone thinks they deserve a million bucks without the proportionate amount of effort. You couldn't graduate high school having coded this app. $5 MAYBE.

I don't know where the person below is getting his ideas from, the licence specifically states: "This software reports its serial number and the name of the computer over the Internet for the purpose of ensuring license compliance. No other information is transferred and this information will not be used to contact you." I am a registered user and have had a fantastic level of support for all my queries. I think it is a really good program that has a feature set that makes it good value for money.

I recently needed an updated synchronization program, and I switched from Synchronize! X Plus (an older version) to Chronosync. Chronosync took a bit of getting used to, but it works just fine and seems to have every feature that Synchronize! X Plus has, and a few extras that are only available in the Pro version. On the other hand, it's significantly slower! So why don't I move back to Synchronize! X Plus? Because of the lunatic profit-protection feature built into current versions of this program. Every time you use it, it sends your synchronization information to the componany, Qdea! That's a privacy violation I just can't tolerate, and I suspect others can't, either. Qdea -- are you there? -- if you would just eliminate this noxious feature, you would increase your customer base and more than make up for whatever profit you think are protecting!

This is an excellent piece of software for synchronizing files, preferences, and settings between macs with removable media (I can't speak about other uses). I've been using it for over a year and have never lost a file or a setting. The initial set-up requires care and the user interface takes a bit of getting used to. But once it's properly set up it is absolutely reliable and it gives you complete control over which files you want to overwrite, leave alone, or delete. As far as I know there is nothing like it for keeping copies of your e-mail on different machines up-to-date. It synchronizes every change to the in-box, every attachment and sent and deleted message, rock solid every time. And the user interface has been improved in the new version so that the process is even clearer. Definitely one of the most useful pieces of software on my computers and worth every penny.

Great software... I have tried a couple of packages, and this one is the quickest and the most reliable. I am a Windows->Mac convert... used to use Briefcase all of the time and this is even better than that.
