FileXaminer overview

FileXaminer is the premier "Get Info" utility for Mac OS X. Get Info is a file/folder attribute editing application that is easier to use and more powerful than competing products. Since the first release, the developer has taken the time to simplify and refine the Get Info User Interface. They looked at what you would need to use Get Info for and came up with things like batch mode, Privilege Presets, Type/Creator favorites, dock menu support, and our extensive Finder Hot Key support. All these features allow you to get your work done faster.

MacUpdate put this on my download tho I don't have any history with it. So I downloaded the Leopard version to give it a try ... doesn't work as it will not even launch. I checked the report and have "Reason: no suitable image found.". Dang, I didn't think I was that bad looking.

What is there in FileXaminer 2.6.2 that is as good as or better than FileBuddy 9.0.1

Whoa, can you say Finder on steroids? Simply amazing. On the subject of Unix, I often use Unix for getting the full scoop on my files. Who knows, maybe I'll switch to FileXaminer some time. Looks very cool, nice interface too.

Unlike Pathfinder, this app does allow the modification of creation and modification dates, other than just using the UNIX command "touch". It's cheap, and it appears that it'll do the job.

well, quiet simple, nice and fair price... but quiet limited also .. I use "A better finder suite" (rename,creator and types,attributes,select) since years and did give me all getinfo support needed .. even much more... of course costs a bit more ... if you use it professionally every cent for it is well spent ...

@Mac Andy It means Your Mileage May Vary. :-) So my experience may be different than yours, but give them a try. They have more features so they are a bit more difficult to learn, but definitely worth it.

@Espiridion: maybe I should take a look at the other programs... And, what meens YMMV?

Looks like a great addition to my utilities.

Although I'm content (mostly) with my current set up, this does looks useful to me... the developer's page mentions that it is compatable fully with PathFinder (admittedy a rival with its own 'GetInfo' feature, but it PF doesn't seem to have as many info editing options); this might also be useful for extensive tagging and creatively using elements of metadata to ease searches. Looks like a good way to avoid the Terminal for deep structure edits and searches.
