Acquisition and Xtorrent are real eye opener for me as I have never been stolen from whil buying apps or anything else on line and now for the first time I feel the pain of being violated in a bright day light. I have to admit this must be for most part my own fault as I trusted the author on these apps and didn't hesitate to pay even for 2nd item, thinking maybe I have to pay one more time since I changed my computer, having had trouble with my old one. Yes I tried to download the damn thing to my new computer but it always brought me back to purchase page where I finally thought I should bight the bullet and buy the damn thing for 2nd time. This is way I think being native like I was make it my own fault at least partially. Still, it doesn't mean the fu*****ing A*sh****e doesn't deserve some jail time, in my opinion a few years being some gang's girlfriend in some max security jail in some nasty part of the country or better yet in some other country is a good reward for this David Wantanbe or what ever his fu****ing name is. And as for fu****ing PayPal, there should be a block on this guy on PayPal so people can't even pay for the damn app that doesn't exist. Why is PayPal allowing payment be made on this shit? There's a phone number to call for issues on the app (1-808)778-6899 try to call this number, it's such a sad jock, some bitch on heroin or some kind of drugs on an answering machine tells you few words that no one can understand , you leave a message and then wait for a call back.... Haha sure, they call back in the next life maybe. What a good way to learn not to trust anyone, it cost me around $80, I'm not ona get poor by it but this crook certainly getting rich as there are still native people like me whom pay for apps that don't exist!

just sent the develop an email in regard sot getting refunds from the crook himself! my name is jUSTIN ***** and i purchased the lifetime option for acquisiton a few years ago and it suddenly is now discontinued for the last year with no responses back from my emails. Just letting you know that if i do NOT receive a full refund from the fraud and crook David wantanbe, many many of his customers are filing a class action suit against him with the help of PAYPAL for fraud and full refunds. We will pursue this legally. Just refund our money and all will be well. we are sick and tired of not receiving responses to our emails and the fact that the developer has stranded us all in the cold and took our money. He will not prevail,we will win. email me back and i will send you my receipt and serial number showing and confirming my purchase and how much the refund should be. if not he will have to pay us all back PLUS damages for fraud and many court fees to fight us. regardless of lime wire being shutdown, this app does still find connections. you must simply download and replace the app only with the new downloaded one,and launch it,your preferences will be the same and it will now connect. keep the downloaded version on your drive somewhere to do the replace trick every so often. works like a charm! the only problem we have now is with lion the Toolbar disappears after first use, so somehow the preflist file either gets corrupted or is not read correctly. When I delete org.xlife.Acquisition.plist, the toolbar shows up correctly, but when I close and open the program again, it's gone again. very annoying and if you do trash your plist file, the toolbar will come back in lion but you must enter your registration info again, which in my case works, but many others have issues getting their serials to work so just be forewarned

I have just re-formatted my Mac since it just won't startup anymore. I tried to re-download Acquisition from acquisitionx.com (already purchased a license before) but everytime I click on the Download link, it always redirects me to Purchase again :/ A little research led me to this site, which mirrors the file: http://acqusitmac.gooofull.com/descarga_gratis

This author is a crook, the app is virtually discontinued and has been for quite some time in favor of newer products. Sells false licenses which claim to be a full 2.x license, yet without warning purposely moves the auto update url so the app itself can no longer locate updates. Disables all upgrades on website and redirects them to purchas links to make users who just bought the app to rebuy it just for bug fixes, even if they just purchased it months ago, which is a violation of license terms for app which purchased. This product should be pulled from mac update to spare any further users the fraud this author intends to commit.

I just re-purchased acquisition 2 due to connectivity issues and I still can't connect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and have not been asked to enter my activation code? Any suggestions on how to enter that code and see if then I can connect? I'm so disappointed. I'm running 10.6.4 OS X snow leopard and never had any issues until just recently...I'm at a loss any help will be appreciated. Especially if I can figure out where to enter my activation code.

Acquisition stopped connecting. Tried a complete clean re-install of version 2.1 and 2.2 and all related files, preferences and folders - no change. Just won't connect to any network. I'm speculating that this could possibly be related to Limewire going out of the P2P business, but it could be something else entirely. Any ideas? Wrote the developer today. Will share here whatever I hear back.

In retrospect, don't know what I was thinking when I thought this particular developer would respond. On par with his past behavior, off course he didn't. Acquisition is effectively dead (probably because it's based on Limewire, so there's no work-around), but he still has the nerves to keep selling the program.

Trust me. you dont want to have to interact with the developer. In all my time in buying software that I liked, after buying this, I'm sorry I did. At one point, I needed my registration number again, and it took a long time for a response and to finally get it. When I finally did get the number, he was very surly, ugly, and very unprofessional in his response to me. After that, I said f**k it, I dont need the headache, and never used the application again. There are so many developers out there who are MORE than willing to help, or listen to suggestions, and to implement them. This developer needs some customer service skills, and anger management classes to boot.

Don't know what's going on here, but when you click the download link above you get a warning that the site you will be visiting has malware on it. If you click through this obviously fake warning you get to the Acquisition website. But the version of Acquisition that is available is the same as the old old version 2.1 (build 210) from ages ago which doesn't work for longer than about one download. The new version advertised here is nowhere to be seen. Anyone any idea what is happening here?

For what it's worth, i actually think it's a very good app. It's easy on the eyes, and downloads stuff without any particular fuzz. If acqlite would be properly updated, that could possibly be an alternative, but it isn't as of now (for me anyway). So, i'll stick with Acquisition for now. Now, i haven't had the privilege of communicating with the developer yet, and judging by previous comments, lets hope i never have to ;)

I bought this application about 2 years ago and immediately I had regrets I did. Essentially all the 'under-the-hood protocols, etc are the same as LimeWire and FrostWire, only with a prettier UI. This application had a 'search as you type' feature, which Snow Leopard broke. I immediately notified the developer about this issue and asked when i could expect an update. He told me that he didn't want to comment on this, he doesn't give timelines on updates. Now (5 months after SL has been released) there's still no update. I'm having real issues here with this developer. 1. Acquisition isn't even mentioned on this blog, does he even plan on supporting this? 2. He's literly copying code from opensource applications. He the opensource community doesn't update the code that he steals, then don't hold your breath for an update (xTorrent). 3. The excuse of not having time, is not true since he has plenty of time for his other projects. It's really pathetic.

OK, there may be a problem with some serials not working (mine does and I don't lose it) and the developer not answering emails (for an app this widely used, he probably gets too many). But this is a great app. It works and does so with a sensible and easy to use GUI. When I need something that I can't or won't buy, I go to Acquisition and it hardly ever fails.

the fact of the matter is its a good app. I prefer it over the competitors and Ill continue to use it but if you ever want to contact the developer don't count on it. I myself never contact the developers of the applications I buy anyway so it doesn't matter to me but I guess a lot of people do. If your really looking for an alternative to what ever your using now Id say get acquisition. I like it , never had a problem and the interface is a lot better then the other guys. But some feel strongly about not buying this guys software for other reasons, but dont let it stop you from using this, most likely you wont have a problem.

I have emailed the creator of the software, but I haven't received a reply (which seems to be commonplace having read the previous reviews about the guy). Does anyone know what my problem might be. I was once an enthusiastic supporter of this app...and heck even its developer. But I can no longer endorse either on account of that guy's unethical behaviour. For those who paid the license on version 1.0 of this app--including many who paid for free upgrades for life--they're now stuck with something that connects, at best, infrequently. The developer's solution? 'Buy a new license, give me more money.' Granted, we're talking here about getting shafted by a product that helps folks rip off record companies--and maybe there's some karma in that--but insofar as we're talking about reputation on the street, this guy's on the blacklist of many, many people for a reason. Avoid Acquisition and never, ever give this guy a dime.

If your in the market for a P2P app, this is what you want. This is so much faster than LimeWire, or even LimeWire PRO. With other P2P apps, downloads crawl, even if you have a fast connection. With Acquisition 2, even if you have slower connections such as dial-up, you will have noticeable fast downloads.

I've lost count over how many posts I've read about people who had bought the "lifetime" upgrade and havn't been able to get it to work. David Watanabe is a liar and a thief. I purchased a license for $15 several years ago, with the guarantee of free lifetime updates. Recently, upon launching Acquisition, I was notified that a software update was available. Thinking nothing of it (why not? All previous updates were free), I downloaded and installed it, only to have it turn my bought-and-paid-for piece of software into crippled shareware. I can't revert to an older version, and now I'm being forced to shell out nearly $25 - $10 more than I paid for it in the first place! Watanabe's behaviour is at best dishonest, and at worst fraudulent and intentionally deceptive. He promised free updates for life for Acquisition, and he reneged on that promise. As for being a thief, let's just say that Mr. Watanabe has a proven track record of wrapping freely available source code in a slick UI and calling it "original" (e.g. Xtorrent). There's a sucker born every minute, and David Watanabe knows it. Stop giving him your money and maybe he'll go away.

Fantastic app, but Incredibly inconsiderate developer! First, the old version of the app tells me there is an upgrade, and allows me to download it. Unfortunately, there was NO NOTICE that the new version required a new license from me. Second, the developer's website indicates that old versions of the app will still work with old licenses. However, there is no way to DOWNGRADE to the old versions - they aren't available anywhere on the developer's website. Third, when I bought the app, I recall I would be offered upgrades for life. I purchased it in 2004. What gives? Fourth, the new version of the app (crippled demo mode) totally lost all my past download lists, including partial downloads. What's up with that? And this is not the first time I've had problems with the developer, as his attitude towards customer questions has been awful at times.

Joel/MU: Thanks for the link to comments providing the OLD version of Acquisition. Much appreciated. However, this doesn't absolve Mr. Watanabe. It's one thing to make mistakes, but to do without apologizing or attempting to fix the situation is what upsets people - particularly those that have paid for the app previously. I would add that after several days, Watanabe did respond twice to my email requesting a new license or access to the old version. His first response was two words "How rude." His second response was a new license code, which I am grateful for. It won't solve my lost downloads, but will allow me to use the new version. Service with a scowl, I guess.

I had the same experience, thought I purchased a license for permanent upgrades, was prompted by the software to download the new version (with no mention this would disable my old version). Now I'm unable to recover the old version and am required to pay $30 for a new license. I actually did receive a rude response from the developer stating that all my claims were false. This is the kind of "service" that should be avoided.

I agree that people should NOT support this application, or any of the developer's others as well. The purchase nags and licensing scheme is more invasive than ever. Remember this thing comes from open source code, and there are several other P2P programs that don't bug you as much as this one. Also look at all the complaints about the developer reneging on promised upgrades to paid users. Current version (as of 12/14/2007) starts a ticker when it starts up... counting down to when it's going to start throttling your downloads. It also removes results from searches and puts little nag-banners in the results. The interface is nice though. Look at Acqlite, Frostwire, or LimeWire first.

When I bought the previous version I was told it had lifetime support. Now I now I'm not the only one who got ripped. When I asked the developer, the only response I get send me your PayPal receipt. Do tyou really think I've got a receipt from that long ago? Even PayPal has'nt got it anymore. I've got to say. it's really good software. It's sad the developer got a bit greedy by ripping off his customers who made him big.
