Overview

Icy Juice is a Cocoa-based ICQ Internet chat client that support multiple accounts. Icy Juice is still a long way from being feature-complete, and the current release is more of a preview and an invitation for users to express their needs and expectations from an ICQ client and for developers to take part in this open-source project in one way or another. Its better then the real ICQ for OSX, it has the features I want and it's very stable. The only request I have is make the return button the send *button*. :)

IMPORTANT: Due to changes in ICQ's servers during August 2004, some Icy Juice users no longer see the actual status of contacts on their list, instead seeing that all of them are offline. It is currently unknown whether this issue is temporary or permanent and whether Icy Juice will be updated to resolve it.

MacOS 10.3.3/ IcyJuice 1.0d5 1. Crashes when I disconnect my dial-up connection. Would be nice if stayed offline until a connection reappears, a-la iChat. 2. File Send does not work with ICQ 2003a/b. Gives either 'Transfer Canceled' or 'Transfer Timed Out' errors. 3. Slow messaging compared to ICQ 3.2. Seems like talking to moon. 4. No type-ahead indicator. 5. No search by interests or details (in the About field, where people usually express themselves). 6. I wish there was a Photo selector or preference so I could see my potential dates, also search by Location :) 7. Why no File Transfer button on the messaging window toolbar? 8. Why re-select account each session at the File - New - Recent menu? Why File menu? Don't know why other people are mad about this client. I pray that Mirabilis or Apple step up to plate and fill in the juicy details of search...and kill the damn fleas in ICQ 3.4 - namely incorrect encoding of offline messages and lack of features compared to PC version. Random chat partners!!!

OSX users need a secure IM client! As a IM user in a corporate environment, I have great fear of having all my messages sent in clear through the corporate Proxy. When will we get a Trillian secure chat compatible client? I know we can use GAIM with X11 but it really isn't satisfactory. We just want an easy to configure client. For the rest of the app, everything is great. Keep up the good work!!!

Wow.. This is great!! It has everything I ever need from ICQ and it's much much cleaner and nicer than the real ICQ application. With file transfer, this is just perfect! Thanks!!

I have to agree with PaWn 100%. Been using this app for quite a while, have also been using ICQ for a long time. Now mostly Icy Juice, not so cluttered up and for my part has all the features needed. In fact I use this all the time now. Great app just don't make it too fancy.

oh yeah... tabbed chatting would be really nice! that's why my preferred AIM client is ADIUM (soon to support libgaim, once it does it will be my ONLY client, yay!)

it's nice... i would prefer it to ICQ for OSX, but it has a few downsides. firstly, it only imported 48 of my contacts, and i have about 180, blah. also the file-send thing that everyone else seems to have mentioned... and then customisation would be nice. overall though it's a nice lite program, and i do enjoy it!

I fail to follow your logic, Anonymous. First of all, since Icy Juice and libicq2000 are LGPLed, anyone can add file transfer support. Secondly, as you would have seen if you'd looked at the source or at the libicq2000-devel archives, file transfer support has already been added to the library, and I've already started working on implementing it in Icy Juice.

Great app, but it's nearly useless since a lot of people using instant messaging does files transfers. Since Icy uses the libicq2000 ( a free GPL'd icq library), file tranfers feature will be not available. Ah if only Icy Juice could use the mICQ library, who does file transfer....

Thank you very much!! This is almost exactly what I am looking for. One small request, can you please add file transfer feature? That would make this application PERFECT!!! As of now, it's already better than ICQ 3.2. Thanks again!!

Very nice. I like it a lot. Unfortunately I no longer know anyone who uses ICQ, but Icy Juice makes me wish I did just so I could use this app. :)
