Awesome that this still works fine under Mac OS X 10.6.4 and that it's free. Takes me back 15 years!

I think I still have my registration letter (yes, letter!) from this app's shareware days. This was a titan in its day, IMHO, and is still a lot of fun today. They get about a million bonus points in my book for open sourcing this one too.

Andrew Welch and Ambrosia are an amazingly cool, talented bunch of people, and they to this day maintain that original spirit and do really great titles.

I'd also recommend checking out Mars Rising and Deimos Rising, written by the very talented Dave Wareing. They give arcade games like Xevious, and Raiden a seriously good run for their money.

Could use a revamp on the graphics, but otherwise for free, this is a great game!

Help! My Maelstrom 3.0.6 just went on the fritz. The link I've had, the one I still find hundreds of times no matter where I search: http://www.devolution.com/~slouken/Maelstrom/ , no longer works. It redirects to: http://advertising.aol.com/creative/projectdevil . I've tried but can find nothing there. How do I report this bad link to MacUpdate?

We generally read all comments posted. You can also email us at updates@ and feedback@.

It looks like the developer site and download disappeared, so we are now hosting the file ourselves. Enjoy!

The pilot, trained by your own Navy, battle hardened by months in the Maelstrom, is equipped with a twin of your own ship and intimate knowledge of your tactics.

The lovely Stratocaster R&R facility never sounded so good, but as you fire full thrusters to dodge the latest barrage you begin to think you'll never get home...
