ForgotIt? overview

ForgotIt is a cross-platform password and notes manager with strong encryption, user-defined categories, and an easy & intuitive user interface. Since its first release in 1997 it does what it's supposed to do: manage passwords.

ForgotIt? uses strong Blowfish or Rijndael (AES) encryption and SHA1 hashing to protect password lists and launches even multiple URLs that belong to a password entry.

Note: if you're upgrading to ForgotIt? 2.0.0 you need to export your Password lists from ForgotIt? 1.4 in plaintext to an encrypted disk image first. Press the option (alt) key for an extended export option in the File menu. You may create encrypted disk images using Apple's Disk Utility or Truecrypt.

I have been using the app for over a decade in its various revisions. The developer is responsive and has continued to provide an upgrade path to existing users. I believe Forgotit! 2 provides excellent protection for passwords and its user interface is best described as utilitarian. It may take a bit longer to open than you expect, especially considering there is not much in the way of visual candy. I suspect this is due to the approach the developer has taken with encryption. The program will automatically generate multiple back up copies, but have never had a file go bad on me; in fact the password file I have has direct lineage to the very first one I created.

Thank for finally updating ForgotIt?!! Version 2 is working fine for me. But will there be a Lion compatible version soon? I'd hate to have to switch to some other one to use Lion - especially after waiting so long for this new version!!

1.3.2. was said to work with X, but that does not seem to be the case. Just loaded it down, but only got a classic version. What's up? Like the program and would like an X compatible version.
