Is this different than Security Update 2018-001 (10.13.4), which apple pots 24 April 2018? https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1963

Here is a very thorough discussion at Arstechnica, of not just Meltdown, but Spectre mitigation impact on performance, across Windows, macOS, Linux. I'm posting this comment because recent updates for macOS include (so it is said) patches for Meltdown and Spectre. The article goes a little more in depth on how impact can be different depending not only OS, but generation of CPU (older CPUs are impacted more than newer ---lake processors. And surprise, how AMD Zen architecture is less impacted than Intel (by happenstance, not because of brilliant forward thinking on AMD's part). Also, significant difference in discussion of Meltdown vs Spectre patches. The impact of Spectre patches seems to be more significant than Meltdown, particularly for I/O intensive situations. Most of us 'typical' desktop users, won't see much effect from either Spectre or Meltdown patches, but Sys Admins and IT guys running servers definitely have been impacted. And if you run Linux (and a lot of Mac guys also use Linux), the impact of patches is quite significant, according to numerous reports. What I have yet to read or have explained to me is why macOS , which is a 'nix/kernel based OS like Linux, doesn't APPEAR to be as effected as some of the Linux variants are claiming they are (Red Hat says up to 20% per the article). https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/01/heres-how-and-why-the-spectre-and-meltdown-patches-will-hurt-performance/

I have a problem with the Supplemental Update here. The process finishes, and my machine restarts, only to have a notification pop up that states all items were NOT installed, giving me a choice between 'details" and "install", either of which do nothing. No response from Apple...???

For those concerned with potential performance degradation introduced with this update (and 10.13.2 in general), here are some benchmarks: https://reverse.put.as/2018/01/07/measuring-osx-meltdown-patches-performance/

HS is suppose to be a "maintenance" upgrade, but the feeling is that its less stable than before. My MBP 2013 (16Gmem, Intel 2.7GHz, 500G flash drive) usually works neatly and fast (aside from LaTeX related stuff all programs are from the store). Somehow there are lots of glitches, particularly with the MAP application that keep on quitting all the time. I'm not happy with this maintenance version.

Disaster for me. I upgraded 2 MacBook Pros (2015). The Supp Update wiped out ALL the login items for the admin accounts on both. Furthermore, on my main laptop bootup took 5 minutes (every time), Mail locked up after a period of being minimised, and High Sierra crashed and rebooted every night during sleep. I reinstalled the original High Sierra 10.13 and all is well again (apart from obviously my passwords being exposed to physical visitors to the laptop).

This is a strange one. I put it on at home on a 2014 Retina iMac and it killed Parallels Pro 13's networking (I used Bridged Wifi). - I had to switch it to Shared Networking. I put it on at work on a 2013 iMac and it seemed okay. Then it show up again and I put it on again, and it essentially killed my 1TB fusion drive (I'm still trying to delete the encrypted Logical Volume Group so I can rebuild the fusion drive). Now it's showing up on the Retina iMac again (fear and trepidation).

No issues at all. Ran fine against my High Sierra partitions - one on an external USB drive, and one on an external Firewire drive. Both are formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled) - they are both HDD's so didn't need APFS.

Is this a scam? Apple doesn’t usually put update here. Not on softwear update yet.
