FYI, this is from a Linksys Tech- "Please remember that the firmware is only for the Version 4 of the BEFW11S4 and is not backwards compatible. I'm sorry for that."

The file and ReadMe both state this only supports model BEFW11S4. Looks like it may only be for the wireless.

Come on, Linksys, how about a little more information about what router this update is for. I also have a BEFSR41 but when I go to your site, this version -- 1.50.10 -- is not listed. For those of you who have never updated the firmware, you'll need MacTFTP Client 1.1 (shareware) to install. Search here at MacUpdate.

What model router is this for? The README included in the archive claims it's only for the wireless model.

Can someone please tell me where I can obtain the 1.44.2 firmware for my BEFSR41? Also, wil it install via Safari 1.0.1 (v85.6)? TIA

For some reason this update to the firmware insisted on resetting the Mac's network and any other device plugged into it (ie.. a PS2) about every hour. The router claimed an LCP Negotiation Fail (Link Control Protocal) which was obviously false. Bypassing the router and hooking up my DSL modem to the mac directly eliminated the network resets, so putting the Router back into the loop and downgrading to 1.44.2 Firmware seems to have fixed it. Bottom line: unless you absolutely require some of the features in the latest update don't worry about it.

I have always installed the FW updates via a PC running WinXP to update my BEFSR11. No problems updating via IE, but after the last two updates I have installed (1.45.6 and 1.45.7) my Macs have (at best) intermittent access to the internet, while the PC maintains a strong connection. The Macs appear to connect to most servers, even downloading partial HTML pages before stalling. When checking email the connection stalls at logging in to the server. All machines see each other locally. My setup is cable modem connected to the BESFR11 (router), connected to an ethernet switch connecting a PC and 4 Macs. If I bypass the BEFSR11 and the switch (connecting the cable modem directly to a Mac) I have no problem accessing the internet. The problem does exists if I bypass the switch connecting a Mac directly to the router. I have downgraded to 1.44.2 which works fine. I have tried resetting the unit to factory defaults after applying the FW updates without improvement. If I load 1.44.2, reset to factory defaults and then only change the MAC address cloning configuration (needed for my cable modem connection) I have full access to the internet. If I load either 1.45.6 or 1.45.7, reset and make the same cloning config change, My Macs can't (or barely) connect to the internet. Any ideas?

Thanks for the update, but was it really necessary to nuke my settings?

Thanks Linksys for the frequent updates and the support. Always get this installed no problem. Thanks again (I to be able to have more port forwarding textboxes! Not enough.)

I have found my EtherFast to be utterly reliable. For anyone who's having trouble installing the firmware, just do a search on MacUpdate for TFTP--there are a handful of TFTP clients that will make a firmware update a no-brainer. My only problems with this router are the slight barriers-to-entry involved with learning about NAT and things like that, but that can't be helped; and that it reverts to open DHCP access if its power is cut. I recommend keeping it plugged into a battery backup system like BackUPS.
