mySIMBL overview

mySIMBL is a successor to the application EasySIMBL. It is designed to make managing SIMBL plugins easy. This appication uses the older version of SIMBL.osax (0.9.9), since EasySIMBL.osax no longer works on OS X 10.9 or later, and the original developer does not seem likely to update his application or script.

Crash on macOS 10.13.6 (17G65 (High Sierra)). Almost 8 months! Could I say this app is trash?

FYI, installing any form of SIMBL to get a "colorful sidebar" in Finder is not necessary. Simply install the "TotalFInder" application. I can't live without it. It provides many awesome features, including colorful sidebar and better tabs.

Doesn't work for me in Sierra. The only SIMBL plug-in I was using before upgrading to macOS 10.12 was colorfulsidebar in Mavericks. But even with System Integrity Protection disabled the plug-in no longer affects Finder windows. I uninstalled SIMBL and reinstalled version 0.9.9. MySIMBL shows SIMBL and the colorfulsidebar plug-in enabled, but they don't work. If they had, I would consider running with SIP disabled, but since they don't, I re-eanbled it. In the meantime, I have a feature recommendation. It would be helpful if there were a select all feature in the blacklist window. This would make it easier to enable it in selected applications so that the "run in" button would apply only to those apps which, it seems to me, would be a lot safer.

In my opinion it would be nice if the notes here just said “requires SIP to be disabled”.

A really handy application to control the SIMBL blacklist. This was needed by use of cDock2 since some applications that shouldn't be injected (e.g., Archive Utility and Printer Que apps) wouldn't auto-quit on completion. The only problem I've had is that cDock2 (0.12.4) installs SIMBL 0.13.9 and mySIMBL complains that it SIMBL 0.9.9 isn't present;. I just cancel out of that error message and can then add to the blacklist by clicking on the SIMBL tab. Thanks for the app!

I'll give this a try. But I'm using EasySIMBL right now on my 27" iMac with OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks and it works just fine—though I do have to restart the Finder (with the RelaunchFinder app) to get color in the Sidebar. This has been necessary since Lion so Mavericks is no different on that score. So what they're saying about EasySIMBL not working in OS X 10.9 is questionable. Perhaps it does not work reliably for everyone. But it works for me. It's the case, though, that El Capitan's System Integrity Protection breaks a number of little tools that I have come to rely on. I have yet to upgrade to OS X 10.11 because of it. However, in today's high threat environment I'm dubious about turning SIP off for the convenience of a few apps.

This is excellent. Thanks for the effort on this! First thing to go on all of our workstations is SIP (System Integrity Protection) as it's simply not worth the headache with what we do as far as developers and designers. I abhor the thought of Apple turning Macs into i-like devices and if Apple forces the point, we'll be abandoning Apple altogether.

Not for me right now. You have to disable System Integrity Protection to use it. Maybe a future release will allow it to be used with the protections enabled as Apple designed the latest OS X to be used.
