Gradekeeper overview

Gradekeeper makes dealing with grades easy!

You enter scores and attendance and Gradekeeper does the rest. Gradekeeper computes grades, prints reports, does seating charts, sends email progress reports, and even posts grades online. With the companion applications for your Palm OS or Pocket PC handheld, you can record grades and attendance during class and synchronize with your desktop computer later.

More than 3500 schools and 100 school districts across the United States and Canada use Gradekeeper.

A single license is $20. A school license is $100. A district license is $500. All licenses allow you to use Gradekeeper on both Windows and OS X, at school and at home, including future versions at no additional cost. With Gradekeeper, you only pay once.

Probably the most straight forward gradebook software on the market, but I feel it is lacking a few major features. The most important for me is an easy way to import 200 students into my database. I teach first year classes and would like to take comma, or tab separated data from tools like WebCT and put it into this program. This would be really useful as I could then carry my grades around on the included handheld application. Another thing that is frustrating is that if the software terms and semesters are not setup correctly at the beginning it is difficult to change them. There are limited ways to import data, but I find them complex and unreliable. For small classes where you have the time to manually enter the information, it works quite well.

Easy to use, Fast. Powerful without a lot of unnecessary fluff. The developer answers questions quickly and can be reached through the website or in Yahoo! Groups/gradekeeper. This is a good solid program that gives me all the flexibility I need to handle high school grading. I've paid more for programs that just bumped along. This has the feel of a well-cared-for program.

A straight forward, no nonsense piece of software. I've been using it for about six years, and it's perfect for managing my university classes; very reliable and easy to use. I've tried many of the other grading programs on the market, and they are mostly geared toward elementary teachers who have one group of students and multiple subjects. I would recommend Gradekeeper for those teaching Jr. High and up, and don't have time or need for lots of bells and whistles. The author updates the program a couple times a year. Excellent value for your money.

When I first registered gradekeeper under OS9 I needed something that would be flexible and grow with me. Unfortunately, this has not been the case and the program now lags behind web-based offerings and MS Excel in its flexibility. In particular, the lack of a true import facility renders the program worthless to me and I've not used it seriously for some time. I keep checking back though, in the hope that the author actually responds to our needs.

Gradekeeper X lacks too many important needs of a digital grade book. I truly believe one should use Jay Klein's Making The Grade/Gradebusters X or OS 9. I've been using MTG since the late 1970's and the program keeps getting better. The best part is that it will never cost you anything for updating once you purchase it. Whether you want to keep grades, attendance, send letters, upload files so parents and students can see their grades online, have seating charts, choosing students, choosing cooperative groups, birthdays, making all kinds of lists and important grades from other devices you, etc. one cannot get a better and easy to use program! Whoever wrote the description on MU's front page should probably fix the missing apostrophe or the irony will kill us :)

I started using (and registered) this program because it seemed fairly simple to use and was not cluttered by a lot of other junk. However, this program is missing some very important features such as data import. I realise that, in theory, this program has an import function but it is one of the worst implementations I have ever used. It is impossible to simply import a column of data from a scantron or spreadsheet and have it append that data to the correct student. You must download the whole datafile to Excel, add the column and then replace your current data with the modified. This needs to be fixed. There are a few other data entry and handling features that could be improved, but overall this is a nice program to work with if you do not need to import exam data from several hundred students at one go.

GREAT PROGRAM! Needs just a bit getting used to. Once you do, it's very helpful in keeping track of grades and attendance. The reporting ability is great too!
