StartupChimeMute mutes the startup chime on OS X. The process can also be undone with the included deinstaller. The application is not required to run after installation.
What’s new in version 2.1.7
Updated on Jun 04 2017
Version 2.1.7:
Fixed a bug to allow the app to work properly on systems up to OS X 10.11
The Free Version:
Start Terminal
"nvram SystemAudioVolume"
Now change the setting to 0
"sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume=%00"
then give the 4 bucks to a homeless.
Ripoff by a smug, arrogant developer who reviews his own products with 5 stars. Went from free to .99 to 3.99 what an absolute F%(*&^%^*hole. Why Macupdate allows it to remain is questionable at best.
1/2 star is too high. He can always buy some shill reviewers to pump it up. All yur star are belong to us!
There is a problem with 2.0.7. I will release 2.1.1 next days. Its limited to 10.6-10.9 because I can't test it on 10.10. If someone would like to beta test 2.1.1... welcome.
Still not working on 10.10 and no disclaimer anywhere near by. If you need to mute your startup chime, Cocktail does the job indeed as suggested by user Ean. Onyx has a mute option but that doesn't work on 10.10 as well.
Turning off the startup sound is not a good idea. This tone is there for a reason. The Mac does a series of system tests before each startup. If everything tests OK then you hear the chime. If not, you will hear different tones, depending upon what is wrong. This is a great aid in troubleshooting an ailing Mac. Just accept this chime as your Mac saying it's happy and ready to do your bidding.
10.10.3 MacBook Pro. Not working. Wish it was, since I am desperately looking for a solution (oh Apple, why no setting for this?). Maybe this can still evolve into a useful software.
