Terrible user experience on macOS. Hasn't been updated in years. Spews Cocoa errors out to command line when you use the shell helper. Doesn't remotely come close to following Human Interface Guidelines. Produces naive/simplistic comparisons of files, nothing I would term "advanced".

I really want this to work, but Catalina won't even open it. It needs to be updated. Very disappointing.

Hello everyone, I am doing Folder comparison, some of my files shows size difference, once i opened those files both side, i did not see any difference. How could i figure it out what is the difference ? One folder is from my local and one is from my git repo.

This program is incredibly well-written. It has very powerful compare capabilities yet is extremely easy to use. I used it today to compare 2 versions of a Microsoft Word 2011 document embedded with MathType equations and it quickly enabled me to find and correct differences between an older document and a newer corrupted document. I could never have recreated this document without DeltaWalker's help. I love the side-by-side comparison with differences color coded, and when I modify one document to bring them closer together, Delta Walker helpfully asks if it should update the comparison, then does so instantly, even though it was comparing a large, complicated document.

I cannot activate the workflow included with the app. Automator will not run the action, it tells me "This service will not receive input when run inside Automator.” So no contextual item ever appears on right-click. Also Automator has no option to “Compare” within ~/Library/Services/ (as is described in the installation Read Me file). Also Terminal was not able to execute the command in the installation folder, even after I placed the workflow within ~/Library/Services/.

Shame on MacUpdate and Deltopia for hiding the FACT that DeltaWalker requires Java! This requirement isn't disclosed up front, instead it's found in Troubleshooting help at https://www.deltawalker.com/faq/troubleshoot -- "A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available in order to run DeltaWalker."

I've been using DeltaWalker in one form or another since 2008 (currently using Oro edition on both Mac and Linux), and it has remained one of my absolute favorite development tools throughout. The app is fast and easy to use, and the developer is easy to reach and eager to help (Admittedly, it's been a while since I've had to contact Deltopia, but it's always been a pleasure in the past). I've tried many other apps (not because I've been unhappy with DeltaWalker, but because I'm a compulsive software evaluator who likes to ensure I'm using the best tools available at the moment)., and none compare. You can't go wrong with any version of DW (even the standard edition is fantastic), but if you can spring for the extra features of Pro (or need the cross-platform utility of Oro), don't hesitate to go for the big guns: You never know when you might want a three-way (er, comparison, that is) If you've ever needed to compare files or folders, this is the gold standard for file-comparison on the Mac (or any other platform, really).

Has anyone used DeltaWalker with Excel or Powerpoint? Comments on how well it does that? Or how well its competitors do that?

I tried DeltaWalker, Beyond Compare and Kaleidoscope today. Of the three I liked Beyond Compare best. I was impressed with DeltaWalker's ease of use, features, appearance, and documentation, but I found it painfully slow. I also found it became unresponsive (not necessarily forever, but for far too long) if I pressed cmd-option-right-arrow a few times. I reported it and I hope it's just a bug. If you try DeltaWalker, beware that by default keystrokes such as option-up-arrow do things like move a line or duplicate a line. I personally found this made it too easy to accidentally corrupt my documents. Fortunately you can remove the keystroke shortcuts for all such commands, though it takes some time and trial-and-error to locate all of them. Kaleidoscope is the only one that does not permit manual editing of files. For me that was a show-stopper. Other than that it is impressively fast and pretty. Beyond Compare is very fast, easy to use, powerful and comes with good documentation. It is perhaps not quite as pretty as the others. One oddity is that it does not collapse missing bits of text (it shows hash marks instead). This is not what I am used to, but does have the virtue of keeping similar text aligned between the two files. Note that all three handle 3-way merge differently. If you use that feature a lot you may want to exercise it carefully. I have been using BBEdit for 2-file diff and FileMerge for 3-way merge (e.g. to resolve git conflicts) and they work well.

Highly recommended! This is one of those apps that you don't use every single day (at least I don't), but when you need it, you really need it... Trying to compare changes between two files or two folders without this app is a nightmare! I haven't had a chance to try the three-way comparison of the pro version, but I'd imagine that it's great considering how they've implemeted everything else. I love DeltaWalker!

Great software, but problem: empty comparison windows when comparing archives (zip, jar, in v2.1). This feature was actually a reason to buy it...

This software is simply amazing. I have tested beutifull Kaleidoscope app and other solutions as well, but nothing comes even close to DeltaWalker Pro. When you're dealing with File, folder comparison & synchronization, you'll find yourself dealing with situations that demand simple or complex operations. DeltaWalker does it all in one app while other tools are missing very useful options. I purchased the DeltaWalker Oro version (yes Oro), since it allows you to run the app with the same registration number on all platform: Mac OS X, Windows, Linux If you just need one Platform, go with DeltaWalker Pro. Since yesterday I can't let it rest. Cleaning and Reorganizing all my work and personal related documents. I had so many backups and 'versions' of stuff, and I just couldn't reconcile them all manually. DeltaWalker is screamingly fast, and helps you make smart decisions while combining, merging and synchronizing folders for example. The support and response time from sales and the support team was amazing. If you have any complex task that you think is too complicated for you, just write them, and they help. Thank you Deltopia for all the help and advice. Dan

I just got my copy of V2 of DeltaWalker and have to say it's more of the same goodness. If you haven't tried DeltaWalker yet for comparing files and folders, you've got to do it! I got DeltaWalker 1.9 in September last year included in a MacUpdate bundle, and at the time didn't really give much thought to it compared with other apps in the bundle. When I checked it out though and watched the basic video tutorials they provide, I figured it'd be worth keeping it installed on my mac, maybe I'd use it sometime. Jump to now, about six months later and DeltaWalker is unquestionably my most used app from the bundle! (along with Screenflow, which I'd already owned prior to getting it again in bundle) I use it regularly for all types of comparisons. Comparisons are really fast and the interface is very intuitive when it comes to actually analyzing the differences between files. I mainly do folder comparisons to quickly find differences between backups and working folders on differing external drives and also file comparisons (particularly with text files) to make sure I'm not losing data when removing files. Before I got it, it wasn't really an app I thought I had a major use for, and I'm really probably not the target audience (I do a bit of web dev and coding stuff, but had never really had a desperate need to run a diff before I got it -- though, I had tried other apps for syncing/checking for duplicates, but they were always so slow [DeltaWalker is crazy fast] and never really felt like I could see that they were actually checking for differences in files because of their simple interfaces -- in the end, before DeltaWalker, I would just CMD+i on both versions of the files/folders and eyeball the number of bytes in each), but needless to say it has become an indispensible tool for me in my day to day work (I work in professional video). Hope this helps anyone considering buying the app. If you think you'll ever have a need to compare files or folders, DeltaWalker is a no brainer! Cheers! Mark.
