Hecta overview

Hecta is an app for OS X which magnifies photographs without pixelation or blur. Photographers, designers, journalists -- and you -- can zoom in on the smallest detail with clarity and precision. Hecta uses a unique algorithm to magnify your photographs, called the Whittaker-Shannon interpolation formula. This is the formula commonly used in the field of satellite imaging. Other image editing software, including iPhoto, use algorithms known as polynomial interpolation -- which results in pixelated, blurry images.

Features:

  • Clear magnification.
  • No pixelation.
  • No blur.
  • No loss of detail.

I'm very disappointed with this app. I cannot get it to stay installed. I installed it once and now it has disappeared. When I did have it open I was unable to get to an image to work on it. There is no "drag and drop" feature - which is what I had expected. Meanwhile, it should have stayed installed and I can't find it in the downloads as it came in under a numerical assignment and not by its title. As far as I am concerned this app needs a lot more thought.

Isn't that called "zooming" in iPhoto and everything else...? Because that's what it looks like on the website - the one with no information and one hugely informative testimonial: "Whoa", apparently uttered by an actor.
