I'm not quite sure why the dev. abandoned TimeLog.. and I reluctanly "updated" to Timings not so long ago (as I use GrandTotal and want to be able to easily import my entries).. I found Timings odd to work with.. very minimalist in appearance with features hard to grasp (sometimes something too "designed" or even too clever one could say in terms of UI, so as to appear minimal, ends up being complex for the user.. with features accessed in "sublayers"). I really missed the iCal sync. Now this new version is more straight-forward and it includes its own calendar.. so the dev realized, I guess, that the previous incarnation of Timings was elegant but on the verge of hermetic.. Good move on redesigning the whole thing (if a bit daring so as to startle users once again..). I still miss the Mac Calendar sync.. IMO any app that uses contacts or calendar entries should synch with the corresponding OS apps. PS: the update from the previous Timings is free.

lly could use an iOS companion - to keep track of your time at a job and then sync it back to the desktop app, and in turn link it to GrandTotal.

I do not use GrandTotal anymore (same dev as Timings and they integrate really well, but for accounting one needs yet an outside solution, a few compatible with GT.. yet none which appeal to me) as I found a solution I feel comfortable with (iCompta) that can do both my accounting and my billing but as far as timekeeping is concerned Timings is really IMO the best, really well-thought out to do granular entries, client>project>sub-parts of the project. Allows me to be very precise when billing. The more precise the more a client understands what really is involved in your work.

I did try various alternatives, being curious, like hr etc.. but they're all way too simplistic yet no easier to use.

I can no longer "archive" my entries. It just doesn't work; the option is always greyed out. Since "archive" is the only way to mark entries as "paid", this software is now useless. I sent an email to the developer a week ago but received no response. Time to move to something that works. The worst part is that I'll have to manually re-enter all of my times.

I see on the developer's website that Timings 2 is coming. It will be a paid upgrade. I'd have preferred he gave us functionality enhancements and bug fixes for the current version to bring it up to par with Time Log, his previous app that he abandoned, rather than asking us to pay yet again.

It seems to be a free upgrade from Timings 1. Not from TimeLog, which seems fair to me.

You saw wrong: "Timings 2.0 is a free update for all Timings users ..."

Time Log (which is essentially the same thing) has been abandoned and no longer works on my system, and Timings has taken its place. The developer provided no upgrade pricing for his loyal users.

When I export my data to a list I can't choose which fields I want included and I can't sort it by date? Really?

I reluctantly bought this after the developer abandoned Time Log, which does not run under Mavericks. I had been happily using Time Log for years and loved its straightforward simplicity, flexibility, and ease of use. Timings is complicated and limited. Very little is self-evident and the help system provides almost no help. Maybe the reason the developer created this app and dropped support for Time Log is that it's meant to work with (and sell) his other application, Grand Total. No longer can I set the status of an entry to "Invoiced" or "Paid", allowing me to track its progress. I can only mark entries as "Archived". I'm really sorry that I started using this application. I'm frustrated; spending valuable, billable time trying to produce a report that I can use to create invoices.
