There's a really simple reason I continue to use a piece of software that hasn't been updated in over eight years, and that reason is that Audion is still the best sounding mp3 availble for mac. I can play the same mp3 through every player I can get my hands on -- iTunes, Vox, SongBird, etc. -- and Audion still has the richest, warmest sound regardless of speaker set-up or EQ.

If sound quality wasn't enough, I also still use Audion for CD ripping, as it's quick, produces good quality mp3s, and doesn't grind my entire machine to a halt while it works. And superfluous as it may be, I do like Audion's selctions of skins, which look nice and blend into whatever my desktop may be.

And while Audion does have it's fair share of bugs, none of which interfere with it's core of playing mp3s, ripping CDs, and playlist management. So if you're concerned with sound quality at all, I'd definitely give Audion a listen.

Outstanding in every way! I have been using the G-Force V Bar for visualizations. Does anyone know how to get the AUDION visualisations? I looked in the Console of Audion per the instructions but there was nothing there. I also tried Google but found nothing.

"Was" a great music player??? It still is a great music player. I use it daily as an alarm clock as well as for listening to various music formats. If it ain't broke, don't plan the funeral!

As an alternative to iTunes, I still miss Audion. I wish someone would pick it up and run with it. I don't care about iPod compatibility or any other extras. It was simply a great & fun audio file and stream player. The choices of skins were so excellent. Last time I tried, it wouldn't work in OSX 10.4.

Hey cool, Audion works in 10.5 Leopard! It plays mp3 files and streams just fine. Now if it would only play AAC files too.

yep, 10.5 compatible, but the audio quality doesnt seem good. An alternate, simpler iTunes would be awesome. Cog is coming closer, after Songbird failed to do so.

I'm now using 10.6 Snow Leopard on an Intel Mac. I'd love to be able to use this as an alarm, and for editing, but it's PPC only. :o( If anyone finds a good alternative that you can recommend, or if someone picks up development on this, please let me know!

Audion has made my life pleasant again. I've had problems with iTunes 4.7.1 update and streaming internet radio stations constantly rebuffering. With Audion I was able to listen to music with no problems and have fun doing it to (changing the face) and all the themes available on their website. I wonder why it is unsupportive now. It's great it's freeware I would be willing to pay for it.

That's sad it is stopped. I continue to use it, it rocks. Some skins are awesome.
It is the best player for Mac OS 8-9 and a great player for OS X.
